Longhorn guard J’Covan Brown will forego his senior season and enter the NBA draft, he announced today. According to mock drafts on the Internet, Brown, who led the Big 12 in scoring as a junior with 20 points a game, is not projected as a first-round draft pick, status that brings a guaranteed contract. But he elected to roll the dice.“There were a lot of reasons to come back to school next year, most importantly getting my degree and being around my teammates every day,” Brown said in a statement. “But the time has come for me to pursue a career in professional basketball and take care of my daughter, Jordyn.” statesman.com Some NBA scouts like the ball-handling skills of Texas junior G J-Covan Brown so much that they believe he could climb from a mid-second round pick into the first round. Brown announced Monday he would forego his senior season at Texas and enter the NBA Draft. "I'm ridiculously impressed with Brown's point-guard skills," said one NBA scout, who compared Brown to LA Clippers' guard Mo Williams. “He reads the floor well and really competes. The problem with him is he lives on the edge emotionally. He wants it to be too much about him.” CBSSports.com |

Texas junior guard J'Covan Brown issued a statement Thursday saying he has not made a decision about whether to enter the NBA draft or return for his senior season. Brown's statement came after reports — including one Thursday by the American-Statesman, which was told Wednesday by an NBA source — that he'd decided to go pro. Brown has until April 10 — the NCAA's deadline for underclassmen to enter the draft — to decide. "The main thing I've been focused on after the season ended has been getting caught up with my academics," Brown said in the statement. "Just so everyone knows what I'm doing, I'm heading home for the weekend to spend some time with my family and talk with them. statesman.com |

J’Covan Brown’s spin move caught the attention of NBA scouts and Big 12 defenders alike this year. The leading scorer in the Big 12, Brown has a series of moves he can go with to score. But his spin is the most dangerous, especially in the lane, where he uses it to avoid potential shot blockers. “I’m very crafty when I spin,” Brown says. “Crazy things happen.” His life is about to get a whole lot crazier. Brown will enter the NBA Draft in June, according to a source close to the situation. UT Daily Texan While Brown has not commented publically about his decision, and even denied claims he’s headed for the NBA via Twitter, the source confirmed he is indeed opting to leave for the NBA.
