Davis, who was in the midst of his finest season as a pro, was likely lost for the rest of the season when he fractured his left foot early in the game. The team found out about the news of the crippling injury midway through Wednesday’s game, sapping the life out of the squad. ``Injuries are a part of it and unfortunately it happened to (Davis),’’ said Nelson, a fellow co-captain. ``I just wish him the best. I gave him a hug, but there’s really nothing you can say to a man like that. I told him I’m here for him and I just hope everything goes well for him.’’ NBA.com

Funny, but Nelson has defied the critics who said he was too short by staying in the league long enough to hear whispers he's getting old. Turning 31 on Feb. 9, he knows what he's facing in the next phase of his career. And he has news for the doubters --- again. Nelson hopes to be able to play until he's 40. "God willing, yeah," he said. "I hope my body holds up until I'm 40." Orlando Sentinel

“I’m quite sure it’s tough (on Turkoglu),’’ said Nelson, who at least appears to be safe after having signed a three-year, $25 million contract last summer. “We all as a unit last year went though a tremendous amount of adversity and a tremendous amount of uncertainty. But he’s nothing but a professional ... He carries himself that way on and off the court.’’ FOXSports Florida

Jameer Nelson participated in the Orlando Magic’s shootaround today, and coach Jacque Vaughn and Nelson expect Nelson to start against the Chicago Bulls tonight at Amway Center. Nelson sat out the Magic’s last two games because of a left hip injury. “It’s a lot better,” Nelson said today. “So far, so good. I expect to play. I’m not sure how I’ll react later on today in terms of my hip and my body. But I worked out yesterday and woke up this morning and felt well enough to go through shootaround.” Orlando Sentinel

Nelson, who made Orlando’s only 3-pointer in Wednesday’s 87-81 loss in Utah, has a long history of boxers in his family. He said that his uncle, Lloyd ``Bad News’’ Nelson, was a one-time Olympic hopeful, and that his late cousin also worked his way up the professional ranks. Nelson has spent summers in the past sparring as a way to mix up his conditioning routines. ``I just like to box,’’ Nelson said. ``Nobody likes to get hit, but you definitely want to learn how to hold your hands.’’ NBA.com

Howard made just nine of his 21 attempts, including seven of his 14 tries in the fourth quarter. Pouty Howard didn’t shake anybody’s hands after the game.“That’s fine,” Jameer Nelson told The Sentinel’s Josh Robbins.. “Certain guys don’t shake hands after the game. “I don’t have any hard feelings to the guy. He made a decision to do what he did. He’s on the team that he’s on. I’m here in Orlando, where I want to be. I just wish him the best of luck. I’m not going to go up and hug him and kiss him or anything like that. “ Orlando Sentinel
