Remember the photo of James Young sitting next to Rihanna at courtside during a playoff game between Toronto and Brooklyn? It appeared Young, the former Kentucky shooting guard, was checking out Rihanna, the pop superstar. Young vehemently denied that was the case. “I saw it (the photo); it was crazy,” Young told me. “It might have looked like I was looking, but I was looking at the ground. It made it look like I was staring at her, but I really wasn’t.” Young said he did have a brief, friendly chat with Rihanna, though. “I talked to her a little bit; I didn’t want to sweat it because everybody around her was talking to her,” Young said. “She’s really nice. She’s really sweet.” Racine Journal-Times

University of Kentucky freshman All-Southeastern Conference selection James Young will forego his sophomore season and enter his name in this year's NBA Draft. “My time at Kentucky has been special to me, something I’ll always treasure, but I feel that I’m ready to take the next step to the NBA,” Young said. “I’ve learned more this year, on and off the court, about life from Coach Cal and the staff and appreciate all of their guidance and support. I can’t say enough about my teammates; the journey helped us build a bond that we will always share for the rest of our lives. I would like to thank the best fans in the country, the Big Blue Nation, and I hope you guys will continue to support me as I move on. I will always bleed blue. Succeed and Proceed!” University of Kentucky Official Athletic Site

While many assume that Kentucky freshman James Young is already set to put his name into the NBA Draft, his godfather insists that is not accurate. “If you go through all this, I think you have been through every emotion possible and I am sure Kentucky fans feel the same way. Then if you have player on the team, it is just magnified even more,” said Sean Mahone, Young’s godfather. “But I love all the tradition, and experiencing that run this team made was fantastic. “We feel blessed. Everybody wants to be part of the championship game experience. That means you might not be on the right end of the final game, but who wouldn’t rather be there with a chance than not even being in the game. Honestly for us, right now it has been such an emotional roller coaster ride and we are seeing so much through James’ eyes. We are not rushing to make any decisions.” Central Kentucky News

"He's a super talent," one Eastern Conference GM said of James Young. "Super feel for the game on the offensive end. The scoring comes very easy for him. Scoring comes very naturally to him. He's one of those guys who can just step on the floor, not having stretched, not having warmed up, not having gotten any shots up, and can go out and score 25. The Harrisons (twins Aaron and Andrew, also freshmen Wildcats) have probably shown it more in the tournament, but James has shown it more since November." NBA.com
