Rookie small forward Wesley Witherspoon remains on the Spurs’ training camp roster, despite the fact that he did not travel with the team on its most recent road trip. Another rookie forward, Alabama’s JaMychal Green, has signed with the Spurs but is not practicing with the team. San Antonio Express-News If the Spurs keep Witherspoon and Green on their camp roster until Saturday, those two players can eschew the crapshoot of the D-League draft and proceed directly to the Austin Toros. Provided they agree to a standard D-League contract, of course. Neither Witherspoon nor Green would count against the Spurs’ 15-man NBA roster in that instance. San Antonio Express-News |

Alabama’s JaMychal Green’s best game this season was arguably his effort against the Florida Gators in early March when he went for 22 points and 10 rebounds. Well, the 6-foot-8 senior who averaged 14 points and 7 rebounds this season picked a heck of a time to play an even more dominant game as he shot 14-for-18 from the field in front of a packed gym of NBA scouts last night at Day 2 of the Portsmouth Invitational. Green showed tremendous gallop in transition and had an array of mid-range makes that led to his game-high 29 points. What may be more impressive was that he only made one free throw and took zero 3-pointers. It was just a matter of getting the ball in the right spots and finishing. Green can thank Seton Hall’s Jordan Theodore who, despite taking 15 shots (making 6) found Green early and often. SheridanHoops |

Ring the chimes. Spread the big news. NBA prospect JaMychal Green will return next season for his senior year at Alabama. The star forward made the decision last week. He made the announcement Wednesday after a 79-64 victory over Miami in the NIT quarterfinals, if you can call a few words with Anthony Grant an announcement. No microphone. No cameras. The news never made it out of the Crimson Tide's locker room. The stoic coach's reaction? "He had a big smile on his face," Green said. "He gave me a hug and told me he loved me." Birmingham News |
