Jared Jeffries will sign a free agent contract with the Knicks once he clears waivers on Tuesday, The Daily News has learned. Jeffries, who was traded to Houston in last year's Tracy McGrady deal, was released by the Rockets on Thursday. He officially becomes a free agent at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and therefore will not be eligible for Tuesday's game against Orlando. New York Daily News

The Houston Rockets have waived seldom-used forward Jared Jeffries' expiring contract, an expected move following a pair of trades made just before Thursday's deadline. SI.com

Jared Jeffries reached a buyout agreement with the Houston Rockets on Friday and will likely sign with the Knicks once he clear waivers. The Heat, Hornets and Thunder have all expressed interest in Jeffries but the defensive-minded forward would prefer to rejoin the Knicks. Jeffries, who was originally signed by former team president Isiah Thomas, was traded last year to Houston in the Tracy McGrady deal. He played sparingly for the Rockets and has been trying since the summer to plot a return to New York. New York Daily News
