It is widely assumed the Nets will explore the trade markets for both Joe Johnson (with his expiring $24.9 million deal) and Jarrett Jack (due $12.6 million over the next two seasons but only partially guaranteed in 2016-17) to try to get away from tax territory that way, instead of waiving and stretching Williams. Neither of those ideas is as complicated as trying to trade D-Will himself, with $21 million next season and $22.3 million in 2016-17 owed to the 30-year-old, but you wouldn't describe trading Johnson or Jack for purely financial motivations as easy, either. "The leader I learned from the most? Probably Jarrett Jack has a big influence when he was here." NBA TV's Game Time replayed the clip with Jack sitting on the dias. He seemed a bit surprised, then explained what he had done when he and Jack played at Golden State two years ago. "That's tough, man," Jack said. "Real humbling. "I would always just stay in his ear ... Steph's a quiet kid, not a boisterous kid by nature ... Just telling him 'it's paramount that your voice is heard, on a day-by-day basis. NetsDaily

A knowledgeable source told the Observer Friday morning that the deal was dormant, if not dead. The Nets pulled away from negotiations and are now exploring other options to move Lopez’s contract. David Aldridge: Re: proposed three-team trade talk reported by ESPN between Brooklyn, Charlotte & OKC (Brook Lopez to OKC, Jarrett Jack and Jeremy Lamb to Charlotte, Lance Stephenson to Nets): nothing imminent. Nets have many potential deals on the table and haven't made any decisions on which way they'll go. Twitter

After losing 103-92 to Memphis inside Barclays Center, the Nets are still striving for it. They saw their losing streak climb to a season-high seven games and their advantage over the pack of teams trailing them for the eighth playoff spot remain at a game-and-a-half heading into Friday’s beginning of a home-and-home with the Wizards in Washington. “I know for me, personally, it’s tough to deal with,” said Jarrett Jack, who went 4-for-12 and finished with 10 points. “You try to look at the next opportunity you have to walk between the lines and try to turn everything around. “That’s the only way to look at it. Just trying to look forward to Friday, and go out there and put out a complete 48-minute game and try to get a [win].” New York Post
