Brett Brown may have another new face on his roster. The Sixers currently have the maximum 15 players signed, but Jarvis Varnado’s 10-day contract expires Monday. The Sixers could sign him to a second 10-day contract or they could fill that roster spot with someone else. “I am thrilled with him so far,” Brown said of Varnado. “I think he is a good guy. He is so willing to please and so coachable, and then he has the skill of blocking shots. He has a toughness inside. He is someone I want to keep moving forward with.” CSNPhilly.com

The Chicago Bulls announced today the team has signed free agent forward Jarvis Varnado (Vur-NAR-doe) to a 10-day contract. In accordance with team policy, terms of the contract were not announced. Varnado (6-9, 230) is currently in his second year in the NBA. After being drafted by the Miami Heat in the second round (41st pick) of the 2010 NBA Draft, Varnado played overseas for two seasons. During the 2012-13 season, Varnado played for the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics and Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA D-League. This season, Varnado has appeared in 22 games (all starts) with the Iowa Energy of the NBA D-League, and has averaged 14.1 ppg, 11.0 rpg, 4.68 bpg and 0.8 apg in 31.1 mpg. NBA.com

The Chicago Bulls have signed 6-foot-9-inch Jarvis Varnado to a 10-day contract. Their roster now stands at 13 players. Varnado has been playing for the Iowa Energy, the Bulls' Development League affiliate. He is the Bulls' latest 10-day experiment as they continue their dance with the luxury tax line. Though they are projected to remain below it after January's Luol Deng trade, performance bonuses in certain contracts like Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson could be triggered. Thus, they are being financially prudent with various 10-day deals and periods of 12-man rosters, one below the league limit but allowable for up to 14 days. Chicago Tribune

Jarvis Varnado injured himself at one of the most unfortunate times for any athlete, during a tryout. In fact, Varnado suffered a hip strain before he even had the chance to perform in the tryout for Philadelphia back on January 13. Now, Varnado told DLeagueDigest.com that he’s aiming to return this week, maybe as soon as tomorrow’s game against Sioux Falls at home. D-League Digest

Varnado spoke with DleagueDigest.com, and explained his current mindset as a member of the Iowa Energy. “My goal is to be consistent every night, and to average a double-double, maybe even squeeze in a triple-double too.” Varnado said. Varnado continued, “I mean that’s what I do, that’s what I got drafted for. A lot of NBA teams want a big guy who can block shots, and also run the floor. I can do both of those things, and I plan on showing everyone that.” D-League Digest
