Cimberio Varese is looking for a big man to replace Estonian Janar Talts. The Italian club tried to reach out Jeff Adrien, who has started the season in Italy with Benetton Treviso during the NBA lockout, but the big man turned down the proposal. Adrien wants to stay in the NBA even if now he is free agent after being waived by the Houston Rockets. "We like Adrien but he is too expensive for us and, right now, he is not interested in playing again in Europe. We have some alternatives but if won't be able to find the perfect player, we will not make any change" said the president of Varese, Cecco Vescovi. Sportando

The Golden State Warriors have signed power forward Jeff Adrien from the NBA Development League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Adrien announced on his Twitter account. The move comes following Wednesday's trade of Brandan Wright and Dan Gadzuric to the New Jersey Nets for Troy Murphy. Murphy is expected to be bought out of his contract, leaving the Warriors with less than the minimum of 13 players needed to be in compliance with NBA roster regulations. Adrien, a 6-foot-7 power forward, began the season with the Warriors before being released on Dec. 9 so the team could sign Acie Law. In 15 games with Golden State, Adrien averaged 2.9 points and 3.3 rebounds in just over 10 minutes of playing time per contest. FanHouse.com

Adrien, a 6-foot-7 power forward that began the season with the Golden State Warriors, scored 30 points to go along with 12 rebounds and two blocks to lead his Rio Grande Valley Vipers past the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the nightcap of the first of four days of D-League action on South Padre Island. "I've opened some doors, but I just have to keep doing it each night," Adrien said. "This team has really embraced me, and it feels good to be in a place where you feel wanted." Adrien's definitely "opened some doors" as the gathered scouts and agents were buzzing about the former UConn Husky and his NBA- caliber abilities despite less than ideal NBA size. "He plays a lot bigger than he actually is," one scout in attendance told FanHouse. "Even though he's not the same height most NBA fours (power forwards) are, he comes out and plays hard. He's a man among boys in the D-League." FanHouse.com
