Never mind. The Celtics won. Jeff Green put the team on his shoulders and scored a season-high 39 points, while the Wizards wilted with a display of selfish basketball. Boston blew a 19-point first-half lead, but Gerald Wallace made a driving layup with 2.5 seconds remaining in overtime Wednesday night for the 113-111 victory that snapped a 10-game road losing streak. ‘‘Lot of reasons to give up,’’ Celtics coach Brad Stevens said. ‘‘And they didn’t do that.’’ Green shot early and often, finishing with career-highs in 3-pointers attempted (16) and made (8). Rookie Phil Pressey added a career-high 20 points. The Celtics played without Rajon Rando, Avery Bradley and Jerryd Bayless and at one point had Chris Johnson and Vander Blue, both on 10-day contracts, on the floor together in the second quarter. ‘‘I just put myself in the position where I had to be the man to carry the team and shoot the ball,’’ Green said. ‘‘So that’s what I did.’’ Boston Globe

Stevens also said that Jerryd Bayless will miss the game with a sprained left big toe and could be sidelined 7-10 days. With Bayless out, reserve point guard Phil Pressey figures to play even more minutes. Boston Globe

A footnote relating to the Boston Celtics-Memphis Grizzlies-Oklahoma City Thunder trade that was completed earlier this week: the Grizzlies didn't just get shooting guard Courtney Lee and a 2016 second-round pick (via the Celtics), they were also given $1.1 million from the Thunder that must be paid within 30 business days. Considering Memphis dealt the expiring deal of Jerryd Bayless ($3.1 million) for Lee's contract that has approximately $11 million combined from this season and next, the extra cash should come in handy. Bayless now joins Jordan Crawford and Avery Bradley as combo guards whose playmaking time will decrease once Rajon Rondo returns to the lineup. He only hopes he does enough to stay, though he will be a free agent next summer. In that respect he’s not surprised with the move. “It’s my contract year and situations like this happen,” said Bayless. “It’s not disappointing, but it’s part of this business. You have to get acclimated with how this team does things, and I will. I’ve been traded a couple of times before, so it’s nothing new to me. It’s difficult, but once the initial shock wears off, you move on with it. Boston Herald
