As for other 2008 draftees eligible for extension, sources say the most likely candidates to receive them are Kevin Love (Timberwolves), Ryan Anderson (Magic), Danilo Gallinari (Nuggets) and Nicolas Batum (Trail Blazers). Also possibilities are Roy Hibbert (Pacers), D.J. Augustin (Bobcats) and Jerryd Bayless (Raptors); and an interesting one will be Eric Gordon with the league-owned Hornets. Minnesota has offered Love, averaging 25.2 points and 14.5 rebounds, a four-year max deal worth $60 million. The hope is that Love will accept the four-year extension and allow small-market Minnesota to save the five-year extension for Ricky Rubio. CBSSports.com |

Dwane Casey on the core players in Toronto: “Andrea (Bargnani) is definitely a piece of the core that we have to utilize. He’s our star. DeMar Derozan is definitely an athletic part of our core, Jose Calderon, Jerryd Bayless, James Johnson is in that group, and Amir Johnson. You’ve got the core now. The part you may have to add is a veteran piece, a veteran defender or whatever along with our draft pick is something that I’m sure Bryan and the staff are going to look at, but the core pieces are there to build on to use as building blocks. Those guys are the guys were gonna push, cajole, put an arm around, or whatever it takes to get to that next level.” Sports Radio Interviews |

But they couldn’t get along, and Colangelo moved Jack to New Orleans last month. Very rarely are general managers so brutally frank about player relationships. We credit Colangelo for detailing why he wanted to trade the productive Jack — because he was the most marketable commodity. Calderon is a liability defensively and is a better 3- point shooter than 2-point shooter. “We came to the conclusion last year that one of either Jose or Jarrett had to go,’’ Colangelo said. “And I made that proclamation that I would trade one of the two, if not both. “We went into training camp with the notion that maybe it was going to work and maybe it would play out to be a favorable situation, and if you look at the whole premise of why we got Jarrett Jack, we needed arguably a better backup point guard. We needed a player that would complement the rest of the team, which we got [in Jerryd Bayless].’’ Boston Globe |

Calderon attempted to set the record straight after Tuesday’s practice, telling a massive media throng that there was never any animosity between the two, just the natural competitiveness of two professionals battling for a starting role. “There’s nothing there, we worked together here, no problems at all,” Calderon said. “It’s like being with Jerryd (Bayless) now, (we’re) going to compete for minutes, that’s all.” Toronto Sun |

Yet as Professor Hollinger explained over the weekend when the Blazers dealt Jerryd Bayless to New Orleans, Fernandez is one of the many trade assets Portland has hoarded in hopes of making a big, Melo-sized score. ![]() The Trail Blazers on Saturday traded backup point guard Jerryd Bayless to New Orleans for a future first-round draft pick, marking the first significant move by new general manager Rich Cho. It is the type of move Cho championed when he was hired in July: It helps the Blazers financially (owner Paul Allen saves $4.6 million), gives them future trade flexibility (the Blazers receive a $2.3 million trade exception) and gives them a potentially valuable asset (first-round pick) that could be parlayed into a larger deal down the road. "It's a good situation for Jerryd and a good situation for us," Cho said. Oregonian "Jerryd is not a true point guard," Cho said. "And at two guard on this team, he's stuck, probably as the fourth guy." Oregonian |
