The Kings continue to be active in trade talks. The two most mentioned names are guards Marcus Thornton and Jimmer Fredette. Combined they become an interesting salary cap value that could return a major salary player. The problem is there does not seem to be a whole lot of interest in either player. The Kings have been linked to Denver in an Andre Miller-Jimmer Fredette swap and that may still go down as Denver gets closer to the deadline. The Kings already triggered a major move to get forward Rudy Gay from Toronto and it seems that they are continuing to try and add meaningful players to the roster. The Kings have no shortage of interesting trade chips, the question is what can they truly get done at the deadline. Basketball Insiders

Nevertheless, I'm told the Kings are looking to buy good players, not sell them. But the Kings don't have a lot of assets that people covet at the moment. Marcus Thornton, Jason Thompson, Jimmer Fredette and Carl Landry would all be available for teams making a run at the playoffs, but no one is beating down the doors for those guys. ESPN.com

The Nuggets were sending a strong message this week in Reno that Miller would be moved in a matter of days after his spat with coach Brian Shaw and subsequent excusing from the team, but he remains and, according to The Denver Post, could even return to the lineup sometime soon after missing four games. It's a safe bet he's not the only unhappy player here, though: the Kings' Jimmer Fredette will be a free agent this summer and is hoping to find momentum in a new uniform before that time arrives. The former BYU star deserves immense credit for his professionalism in these last few frustrating years, and that's the very reason you won't likely hear him complain publicly (or even privately) about his lot in Kings Land. But with Sacramento hoping to get at least a second-round draft pick in return for him in any possible deal, count me among the masses who hope he's on the move sooner rather than later and that he finds a better fit elsewhere. The Kings have offered Marcus Thornton and a future second-round pick as the framework of a deal for Miller, and have presented a package including Jimmer Fredette and a future second as an alternative, two people familiar with the scenarios said Wednesday. Those people familiar with the terms of those offers did not know the third scenario presented by Sacramento, but executives gathered here for the D-League Showcase surmised that it likely involves forward Jason Thompson. Executives scouting the development league event suspect that the Kings are now showcasing Thornton, who has moved ahead of first-round pick Ben McLemore in Sacramento's starting lineup. The Kings would have to furnish another player in a potential deal involving Fredette to make the trade work under NBA rules. CBSSports.com

It was just a rumor of course. Jimmer is still wearing Kings’ purple and black. But without a guaranteed deal for next season, the former BYU star knows that his tenure in Sacramento could come to an end at anytime. “In the NBA, there’s going to be rumors all the time,” head coach Michael Malone said before the Kings took on the Lakers on Friday night. “This guy’s going here and (Friday), there’s a report that Jimmer’s getting traded to Toronto. But all that is talk. It’s a distraction and it cannot take you away from keeping your eyes on the prize.” Cowbell Kingdom

A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to Cowbell Kingdom Friday morning that there was no truth to the rumored deal with Toronto, but in many instances, the damage is already done. Players are people and hearing your name pop up in trade rumors is uncomfortable at best. “I think Pete D’Alessandro does a great job,” Malone added. “If something is going on, Pete is a great communicator and he’ll make sure that he’s talking to the parties that may need talking to.” Cowbell Kingdom

CK: How are you holding up on a day like today when there are rumors and there are all of these other things going on? Jimmer: I’m doing fine, you know. I continue to work. You can’t really worry about things you can’t control. So you just continue to fight, work hard, knowing at some point, you’re going to get an opportunity. So you have to stay ready for it, stay focused on it and so you just can’t really worry about it as much as people think. Cowbell Kingdom

Barely used in his two-plus seasons with the Kings, Fredette could be an attractive target for an offensive-starved team that still believes he may have a future in the league. Fredette's expiring contract pays him $2.57 million this season and should it fairly easy for the Kings to trade him, but Sacramento won't get much back in return. ESPN.com
