Brian T. Smith: Jimmer Fredette's hoping for a clean slate with the Kings and believes his relationship with coach Keith Smart continues to improve. But if Fredette remains at the bottom of Sacramento's depth chart and the team struggles, it wouldn't be surprising to see him moved before the 2013 #NBA trade deadline, if not sooner. Twitter

Jimmer Fredette on how he's viewing situation with Sacramento: I just worry about the things that I can control. And that's right now just working on my game and becoming the best player I can be. When it comes to the training camp, I know that I'll be ready to go. I'll show them that I can be a very good player in this league and a guy that can help their team. That's what my focus is right now. Whatever happens in the future, I can't really predict that. But I'm working on becoming the best player that I can be. If I control that and be the best player that I can be, I'm going to find a spot and be in the right place. Sulia

Fredette, optimistic about having a stronger second year in the NBA, said "last year, was just so irregular." The Daily Herald

"One thing I've always had was my life outside basketball. I didn't quite have that last year," Fredette said. "But I'm excited to get back out there. Summer (camp with the Kings, in Las Vegas) was good. I'm playing the game I love. I'll get back to smiling this year. I learned a lot. I'm really looking forward to working with my teammates and coaches, having a lot better year. Hopefully being a lot more consistent." The Daily Herald

Fredette insisted that he didn't play with any added motivation because of the team's decision to add another point guard to the mix, even if it does put him behind Brooks and Isaiah Thomas entering next season and qualify as the latest setback to an already frustrating start to his career. The obvious impact of the move could be spotted in the stands Monday during the Kings game, where Fredette's agent, Jeff Austin, was seen discussing the unexpected situation with Geoff Petrie, Sacramento's president of basketball operations, for nearly a half hour. The Fredette camp was clearly surprised by the addition, as the plan entering the offseason was for him to transition into the lead guard position. Now, however, the question becomes whether the 23-year-old Fredette will be seen as a valuable shooter off the bench or a possible trade chip. "It is what it is," Fredette said after the game in which he hit 10-of-21 shots. "You just go out there and play. Aaron is a really explosive scorer, a guy who can really put the ball in the basket as well. "It's all about trying to get the team better, and I'm going to go out and play as hard as I can and try to get as many minutes as I can, and just help the team in any way I can. Whatever is best for the team." SI.com

Bothered by the pressure, Fredette looked uncomfortable for most of the game. But the Kings want him to work through these issues, which plagued him as a rookie. With starting point guard Isaiah Thomas not playing in the summer league, there will be plenty of chances for Fredette to work on what went wrong. "At some point, he has to figure it out," said Kings summer league co-head coach Bobby Jackson. "I want him to be a bit more aggressive on the pick-and-rolls. He's got to understand that's what guys are going to do because he can shoot the ball. He didn't shoot the ball well (Friday), but he's got to be the guy that's aggressive and gets us in our stuff. … He'll figure it out." Sacramento Bee

Last season wasn’t the fairy tale story he dreamed of. There was no summer league and training camp was abbreviated due to the lockout. After being taken 10th overall last year, Jimmer lost major playing time to fellow rookie Isaiah Thomas, the final pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. He faced losing, a coaching change, fluctuating playing time and adversity that maybe he wasn’t ready for. “Rookies it was especially tough to get used to that transition,” Fredette said following mini camp on Tuesday. “And then we had a coaching change, so it was a little bit different from our position…” Cowbell Kingdom

Jimmer Fredette got married to his longtime girlfriend, former BYU cheerleader Whitney Wonnacott over the weekend in Colorado. Nine months after popping the question, the Sacramento Kings guard got hitched. If you’ve been breathlessly following Wonnacott’s twitter feed, you’re already aware of the all the salient details. One she probably didn’t tweet out: Paper lanterns released during a rehearsal dinner in Centennial on Thursday night confused nearby residents and stirred up UFO talk. Viewers called in to 9NEWS to report “strange fiery lights” floating in the sky near Arapahoe and University. One viewer finally solved the mystery after one of the lanterns landed in her neighbor’s yard. The Big Lead

Jimmer Mania wasn't all hype. This, Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard firmly believes. Immersed in his own rookie season, Leonard admits he hasn't seen Jimmer Fredette play much this season with the Kings. But he remembers how Fredette lit up the Mountain West Conference — and his own San Diego State squad — last season at BYU, led the NCAA in scoring and won national player of the year honors. Fredette, a 6-foot-2 shooter the Kings are hoping to remake as a point guard, has struggled to find a foothold his first season in Sacramento. Heading into Wednesday's game against the Spurs, Fredette was averaging 7.2 points and shooting 38.3 percent in 18:23 per game. “It's his first year,” said Leonard, selected 15th in the June draft, five spots lower than Fredette. “Everybody's struggling as rookies coming in. With the lockout, you didn't get to practice with your teammates. He's a hard worker. I believe he'll get better as time goes on.” San Antonio Express-News

Three months into his first NBA season – eight months after being drafted ahead of Klay Thompson, Alec Burks and Kawhi Leonard, among others – Jimmer Fredette is struggling to establish a role, earn consistent minutes, exploit his combination of skills and keep his shoulders squared and attitude straight. "I know exactly what he's going through," Kings coach Keith Smart said. "I went from hitting the winning shot on a championship team (Indiana in 1987) … and it's hard. You want so much more. But he's learning, he's improving. He's like most rookies in this league who just need time to develop." Sacramento Bee

This is the NBA, the global game of unpredictable twists and turns, along with the accompanying high drama. In February, Fredette's older brother, T.J., tweeted unflattering comments about the Kings' head coach, causing a mini-furor within social networking circles and placing Jimmer in an awkward situation within his own locker room. Four weeks later, it's as if the incident never happened. "Families," said Smart, smiling, and with a dismissive shrug. Sacramento Bee

The coaches and players seem genuinely appreciative of Fredette's easy nature and his attempts from the beginning to place a chill on his ridiculously high profile. Nonetheless, with his minutes and production sporadic, the former Cougars standout is an increasingly subdued presence these days in the locker room. (Entering Saturday's game against Golden State, he was averaging 18.7 minutes, with three DNPs, and shooting 38 percent). "It's been a little difficult," Fredette said, denying that his confidence is shaken. "I'm just trying to work hard, to learn as much as I can." Sacramento Bee
