Lakers guard Jodie Meeks will graduate from the University of Kentucky on Saturday, five years after leaving the Wildcats for the NBA. The Lakers are interested in Meeks, 26, a soon-to-be free agent who is paid $1.6 million in a league whose average salary is $5.5 million. He's interested in them, too. "When I signed here two years ago, I told my family that I would love to be here the rest of my career," Meeks said. "Learning from great players — Kobe [Bryant], Pau Gasol, and at the time, Dwight [Howard], Steve Nash. Obviously, I want to be here and it's a great organization and I love playing here. "But on the flip side it's a business. Both sides have to do what they do." Los Angeles Times

Now the question for Meeks is whether the Lakers will be the beneficiary of all that improvement moving forward, or if he'll bring his shooting stroke and reliable outlook somewhere else when he becomes a free agent this summer. "Definitely, I want to stay, but it's a business," Meeks said. "So, both sides of the party, it will be interesting to see what happens. ... I'll just kind of play the waiting game." ESPN.com

With the Lakers exercising Meeks’ $1.55 million team option early in the 2013 offseason, he also strongly stated his desire to stay here. “I like the city and love it here,” said Meeks, who has averaged a career-high 14.6 points on 45.4-percent shooting. “The coaching staff is great and it’s a storied organization. I always pictured playing in a organization that’s prideful about winning. I love it here and hope I can stay a long time.” Los Angeles Daily News
