And for the record, Meeks, who entered the league without a guaranteed contract as a former second-round pick by Milwaukee, has no interest in rehashing his friend Dwight Howard's decision to go to Houston. "I don’t really get surprised with anything that happens anymore in the NBA just because it’s a business," Meeks said. "Obviously you get shook sometimes, but I just try to sit back and watch and try to survive as long as I possibly can." Thriving in Lakers training camp from Day 1 will do wonders for his survival. "I think it’s more mental," Meeks said. "Telling myself that it’s a really big opportunity for myself to show what I can do. Regardless of what the situation is, I’m going into this last month, month and a half of summer training thinking I’m going to be playing major minutes or possibly starting. If that doesn’t happen, then it just doesn’t happen, but I think that’s mentally what I have to think about." ESPN.com

Here is the Lakers' plan if Dwight leaves: Keep Pau for final year of his deal. Use amnesty provision to cut Metta and save $30 million in luxury-tax payments. Re-sign Earl Clark if reasonable, sign someone else on the cheap and/or plug in Meeks or Blake to the starting lineup that will have two vacancies without Dwight and Metta but still Pau. Jordan Hill is the only other frontcourt player under contract right now. Sulia

Jodie Meeks has been a critical role player for the Los Angeles Lakers this season, spacing the floor and providing versatility and durability at the wing position. In Meeks’ mind, he views the Lakers as a long-term fit and believes there’s a solid chance he’ll stay through at least next season’s team option in his contract. “Yeah, I think so,” Meeks told RealGM when asked if he believes he will be part of the Lakers beyond this season. “You can’t really worry about that right now, just finish out this year. I’ll do that and see whatever happens.” RealGM
