The Lakers received more than just veteran forward Joe Smith and about $8 million in salary and luxury-tax relief after sending Sasha Vujacic and a 2001 first-rounder to New Jersey. They also received Golden State's second-round selection in 2011 and Chicago's second-round selection in 2012, both via New Jersey. The Warriors' pick next June might be only a handful of spots lower than the first-rounder the Lakers gave up. Los Angeles Times

The Nets completed the three-team trade with the Rockets and Lakers that will send Terrence Williams to Houston and Joe Smith to Los Angeles. In return the Nets receive a lottery protected 2012 first-round pick from Houston, and shooting guard Sasha Vujacic and a 2011 first-rounder from the Lakers protected 1-18. The Nets also are giving the Lakers two second-round picks, Golden State’s 2011 and Chicago’s 2012. The Lakers also will receive the draft rights to Sergei Lishchuk from the Rockets, while the Rockets acquired guard Terrence Williams from New Jersey. Bergen Record

The New Jersey Nets have signed veteran free agent forward Joe Smith. The Nets did not disclose contract terms in announcing the deal Friday. The first pick overall in the 1995 draft, this will be Smith's 11th team in his 15-year NBA career. He appeared in 64 games with Atlanta last season, averaging 3.0 points and 2.5 rebounds. ESPN.com

Power forward update: There is no update. Basically, there is no other guy they can induce with a make-good, as they did with Sean May. Louis Amundson wants a $3 million guarantee, which is fair. Joe Smith wants a full guarantee. Even Malik Allen wants a half-guarantee. Newark Star-Ledger
