![]() Bogut was impressed with the additions of forwards Corey Maggette (via trade) and Drew Gooden (via free agency). And he was pleasantly surprised when shooting guard John Salmons signed a five-year deal to return to the Bucks. "To be honest, I didn't think we were going to re-sign John," Bogut said Monday at the team's annual golf outing at Ozaukee Country Club. "The way he played in the playoffs and so on, I thought he was gone. "I texted John before he signed and I said, 'Come on, man, you've got to re-sign.' He was, 'You know how it is.' He was non-committal. When I heard the news (Salmons had signed) I was in Croatia and I was ecstatic. Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel |

What do you make of Maggette? Is he someone you can play with, or are you guys too similar? John Salmons: I don’t see us as similar at all. Of course we can play together. He is a guy who can get you scoring, can put points on the board, gets to the free-throw line. He can start, he can come off the bench. I am looking forward to playing with him. I think he will make me a better player. Sporting News Were you surprised that all three guys wound up in Miami? Do you think something is wrong with the rules if that can happen? John Salmons: No, that was their decision, and it was all within the rules. I don’t have a problem with that. It’s not for me; I don’t think I would get together and try to play with someone else—you have to do what’s best for you. And no one knows how it is going to work out, how the chemistry is going to be down there. Sporting News |

![]() Drew Gooden and John Salmons signed multiyear deals with the Bucks today, after agreeing to free-agent contracts last week. And the two players said they expect the Bucks to be extremely competitive following last year's 46-victory season. Salmons chose to re-sign with Milwaukee after playing a pivotal role in its playoff push last season, while Gooden signed a five-year deal estimated at $32 million. The 29-year-old Gooden admitted he had been eyeing the Bucks for a long time and had been a subject of intense discussion by the team at last season's trade deadline. "I know it's a big table this summer and I just wanted my seat at the table, basically," Gooden said following a news conference held at the Bradley Center on Thursday morning. "I worked hard for whatever I got and Milwaukee was the organization that thought I was deserving of this deal. Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel |

The Milwaukee Bucks have verbally agreed to a five-year, $39 million deal with free-agent guard John Salmons, according to league sources. Sources say that the last year of the deal is only partially guaranteed. Salmons exercised a player opt-out on his contract last week. The Bucks responded by making deals for Corey Maggette and Chris Douglas-Roberts on draft day. It was widely assumed that the two deals were a signal the team was moving on. ESPN.com League sources said the Bucks and Salmons' agent, Joel Bell, were closing in on a multiyear agreement, but it was not a finished deal as of Thursday night. Salmons' return would provide a solid starter at shooting guard and give the team the luxury of having a 23-year-old backup in Chris Douglas-Roberts, acquired in a recent trade with New Jersey. The Bucks and Salmons have been discussing a five-year, $39 million deal both last night and today, according to league sources. So that's not fully guaranteed. Twitter As free agents start agreeing to deals (before the July 7th date they can sign), many teams are trying to take care of their own business before looking elsewhere. The Bucks in particular have been focused on re-signing John Salmons, who is the B-grade version of Joe Johnson in this year's free agency. David Aldridge of NBA.com reports that Salmons is close to signing a 5-year, $39 million deal with Milwaukee. A person involved in the process told CBSSports.com today that Salmons' deal "might get done with Milwaukee, might get done with somebody else." "Nothing's done right now" the source added. CBSSports.com ![]() The Milwaukee Bucks have had one of the best offseasons of any team in the league, and they are close to pulling off another surprising move. The Bucks are on the verge of re-signing guard John Salmons, one of the top shooting guards available in free agency -- and thought to be on the move after opting out of his deal last month -- to a five-year, $39 million contract. The deal also includes $5 million in potential bonuses, according to a source, and two league sources say the Bucks have a buyout option for the fifth season. NBA.com Milwaukee is about to finalize a deal Thursday to re-sign guard John Salmons. A source told FanHouse the deal is done except for a few minor points. Milwaukee general manager John Hammond had told FanHouse very early Thursday morning he had "guarded'' optimism that Salmons would re-sign. The source said the deal will be for five years for about $39 million. "That's good money,'' said the source, speaking of Salmons, who opted out of a contract that would have paid him $5.81 million next season. FanHouse.com The Cavs are also believed to pursue in various shooting guards. Sources indicated the team planned to make contact with Ray Allen, Mike Miller and John Salmons. Allen, like Stoudemire and Bosh, would become more likely if James re-signs. Miller has been a target of the team for the last several years and has a strong relationship with James. He's expected to draw a lot of interest from other teams as well. Salmons opted out of his contract with the Milwaukee Bucks but several reports have indicated he may re-sign with that team. Cleveland Plain Dealer Milwaukee general manager John Hammond said he has "guarded'' optimism John Salmons will re-sign with the Bucks. In an interview with FanHouse early Thursday morning, after the free agency period had begun, Hammond said he spoke to both Salmons and his agent, Joel Bell, by phone, shortly after midnight EDT. He plans to negotiate with Bell during the day Thursday. "We've told him that we want him back,'' Hammond said of Salmons, who opted out of a contract that would have paid him $5.81 million next season. But is the feeling mutual? "I think so,'' Hammond said. "We talked at the end of the season about how much we appreciated the season that he had and helping us get back to the playoffs. And he appreciated that.'' FanHouse.com The Milwaukee Bucks are making progress on a deal that would bring back free agent John Salmons, a source close to the process told ESPN.com.
