To keep the deal from falling apart, Minnesota sent a 2012 second-round pick to the Rockets, league sources said. The issues wouldn’t have kept Flynn off the court, but did raise some concerns for the long-term. Whether Minnesota had been forthcoming with the information prior to the trade is unclear. Yahoo! The Knicks have had preliminary discussions with the Minnesota Timberwolves about a trade for point guard Jonny Flynn. No formal deal is in place, but the Knicks are debating whether Flynn, the sixth overall pick of the 2009 draft would be a viable option to back up Chauncey Billups for at least one season. Flynn has become expendable now that the Wolves have signed Spanish guard Ricky Rubio, who was taken one pick ahead of Flynn. New York Daily News

Toney Douglas would likely be the player traded for Flynn. However, Douglas is coming off major shoulder surgery, which in theory would make him tough to deal. But Flynn is a similar medical risk. The 6-foot guard out of Syracuse had hip surgery last July and was limited to 53 games in his second year, not including a stint in the D-League. New York Daily News

Jonny Flynn and Michael Beasley might be traded this summer? Tony Ronzone: No, I do not think Beasley will leave. For Jonny Flynn, we'll see what it is. We'll know more in a few days. Basket USA

The Minnesota Timberwolves, meanwhile, won't let Williams or Irving slip beyond No. 2. Sources with knowledge of the situation say that if the Cavaliers pick Irving at No. 1, the Timberwolves will take Williams at No. 2, and don't plan on trading Michael Beasley or Anthony Randolph. If the Cavs were to select Williams, the Timberwolves would take Irving at No. 2, even with the impending arrival of Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio. The Timberwolves would hold onto the Irving asset and likely command a number of suitors. Reserve point guard Jonny Flynn then would be on the trade block. ESPN.com

Could the Bucks make a pitch for Minnesota point guard Jonny Flynn? Before the 2009 NBA draft, Bucks officials were enamored with Flynn and were chagrined when he was taken by the Timberwolves with the sixth overall pick. The Bucks then chose Brandon Jennings with the 10th selection. With Minnesota now having a glut of point guards, including ex-Buck Luke Ridnour and Ricky Rubio, look for Flynn to be on his way out. Racine Journal-Times

Chris Mannix: Deal with Rubio likely means Jonny Flynn will be on the move. Rubio will be given every chance to start, play big minutes. Twitter
