Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak expects to hear from the NBA sometime this week on whether the league will grant the team a disabled players exception for Jordan Hill. Kupchak said that might happen as early as today, though he said he's not overly concerned about it. The exception, worth $1.78million, goes to teams who have an injured player who will be out until June 15. Hill had left hip surgery last week and won't return until at least mid-July. The Lakers also filed for a disabled player exception for Jordan Hill on Tuesday, general manager Mitch Kupchak told ESPNLosAngeles.com. Hill needs hip surgery and is expected to be out the rest of the season. If the league grants the petition, the Lakers will be allowed to spend a little more than half of Hill's salary, about $1.78 million, in order to sign a free agent or to absorb a player's contract acquired in a trade. ESPN.com According to Kupchak, the Lakers will not definitely use the exception if it becomes available to them, especially with Clark unexpectedly stepping up in Hill's absence. "There's no downside (to receiving the exception)," Kupchak told ESPNLosAngeles.com. "You never know what could happen." ESPN.com |

![]() General Manager Mitch Kupchak said the Lakers would consider applying for a disabled-player exception for injured big man Jordan Hill, though the team was leaning against it because of its already bloated $100-million payroll. They would be allowed to spend $1.78 million on a free agent if the NBA granted them the exception. "We'll look into it," Kupchak said. "We have until Tuesday." Los Angeles Times |

The Lakers have until Tuesday to apply for a "disabled players exception" for Jordan Hill. It was announced on Friday that Hill will miss the remainder of the season with a hip injury that will sideline the forward-center for six months. According to the Larry Coon's NBA Salary Cap FAQ, the Lakers can apply for an exception worth half of Hill's $3.56-million salary. There's no guarantee the league will approve the exception if the Lakers even apply for it, but if granted, the Lakers would gain about $1.78 million in additional spending power. Los Angeles Times ![]() Friday night Jordan Hill showed up in street clothes to Staples Center and didn’t look good limping down the hall. Slowly. It hurt to watch him walk. Turns out it was with good reason — he needs hip surgery and will be out for the season, the Lakers reported. NBCSports.com After seeing the team doctor and a hip specialist it was determined he had loose fragments as well as a possible labral tear, the Lakers announced. Basically, it makes it painful to walk, let alone run and jump. The only way to fix it is surgery that will cost him the rest of the season. NBCSports.com |

Gasol isn’t the only player the Lakers have explored moving, sources near the situation say the Lakers would like to open up a roster spot to add a new player or two so don’t be surprised if guys like Jordan Hill, Devin Ebanks, Darius Morris or Darius Johnson-Odom are moved in exchange for a backup point guard or a second round draft pick in order to open a spot for the Lakers to sign one. Under typical circumstances, when a player signs as a free agent over the summer, they cannot be traded until Dec 15. Now that that date has been reached, the Lakers are now able to deal most of their free-agent acquisitions. This isn't to suggest the Lakers are actually looking to make any specific moves, but technically Jodie Meeks and Antawn Jamison are now trade eligible. Additionally, Devin Ebanks and Darius Morris can be dealt but under the strict rules of the league's collective bargaining agreement, both have the right to block any trade after signing one year-deals (with Bird or Early Bird Rights upon completion). Another wrinkle to the equation is Jordan Hill, who can't be dealt until Jan. 15 after getting a raise greater than 20% from the Lakers. Los Angeles Times |

Dwight Howard said Steve Nash fell asleep and was "snoring pretty loud." Howard might have been joking, but Jordan Hill was not. "I fell asleep 8 times," Hill wrote on his Twitter account. Gasol was animated, and positive, on Twitter. "Very good movie! It describes one of the most important moments in the history of the USA," he wrote. "Highly recommended!" Los Angeles Times |

![]() The Lakers let go of Coach Mike Brown on Friday, stunning the players who were informed by General Manager Mitch Kupchak at what was supposed to be the team's standard game-day shoot-around. "I mean, it was just shocking to me," said forward Jordan Hill. "I've never experienced anything like that. I pulled into practice, and I saw coach. We walked in together. It was just a normal day." "Then 20 minutes later we got the news," continued Hill. "It was definitely unexpected." Los Angeles Times |
