Griz coach Lionel Hollins said Selby's D-League tour would give him "an opportunity to see four or five game tapes to see exactly what he is. We've been trying to patch him in at point guard. Is he a point guard? We don't know. Is he better at the off-guard spot? We don't know. He's never played it for us. I'd just like to get an opportunity to see him when he's playing a lot of minutes." Iman Shumpert: Friday night, I headed out to Bridgeport, Conn., to play in another charity game for us locked-out players. The people who came out — maybe 2,000 — provided us plenty energy with cheers and competitive boos. I decided to sit out the last part of the game after going up for a dunk and feeling an awkward pain in my knee. I could have kept playing, but decided just to ice it to ensure I was OK. Nothing major. I think it was due to not warming up at half because I was hanging out with fans and doing photos and autographs, which is partly why we were there. Some of the many participants were Tyreke Evans, Sam Young, Josh Selby, Wes Mathews, Nolan Smith, Howard Thomkins and Travis Leslie. My team won, 171-169. The best part for me was getting a chance to connect with more Knicks fans praying for a season! It was a great turnout. New York Post

Selby hasn't already signed in Europe in part because his agent, Andy Miller, cited two timetables for players to commit overseas. Miller said European teams have a late October/early November deadline for when training camps begin. There's another cut-off date around mid-December when teams have to finalize rosters. "I've looked at different situations," Miller told The Commercial Appeal last month. "I'm 100 percent sure I can find opportunities (for Selby) ... But it has to be the right job and the right environment in terms of living. He's in the development stage so I just can't send him anywhere." Memphis Commercial Appeal

But the 6-3 guard's ascent to the next level has been rudely interrupted by a league-imposed lockout that threatens the 2011-12 season and Selby's rookie campaign. Instead of enjoying the bright lights of the NBA, Selby continues to work around one of the darkest stages of his basketball life. He's playing the waiting game in lieu of contests at FedExForum, and insists there are no regrets. "I don't regret any thing," said Selby, a Baltimore native. "I've just been doing what I've always been doing. There's nothing us rookies can do about the lockout so I just wait to hear what's going on." Memphis Commercial Appeal

Selby's spent most of his time this summer with the likes of Anthony, Kevin Durant and Chris Paul. And it didn't taken long for Griz pillars Mike Conley, Rudy Gay, O.J. Mayo and Zach Randolph to vouch for the 20-year-old Selby's potential. "He's the steal of the draft," Randolph said. "The young fella is going to help us." Memphis Commercial Appeal

A number of GMs reported to me on Friday that they passed on some players because of injury concerns. What's interesting is that some team doctors see problems that other team doctors don't. I heard particular teams had concerns about Bismack Biyombo, Kemba Walker, Justin Harper and Josh Selby. The concerns didn't affect Biyombo and Walker's draft stock much, but may help explain why Harper and Selby slid like they did. ESPN.com

What was your reaction when you heard your name called with the 49th pick?: Josh Selby: “I was surprised because I didn’t work out for the Grizzlies, but after I came back to reality, I just broke down crying, saying that all the work I did paid off. It was a great feeling, a wonderful feeling.” Did you expect to go sooner than that?: “I didn’t know, really, what to expect because my range was so wide because of what happened at Kansas. Everybody knew I had the talent, but they were just wanting to know what was going on at Kansas and didn’t know if they wanted to take that chance on me. But my name got called. I’m happy; I’m very excited. I can’t wait to play for the Grizzlies.” Sports Radio Interviews

Carmelo Anthony's draft philosophy is simple and precise: draft the best available player from Baltimore. Anthony has made it clear to the Knicks that he'd love for the club to draft one of his Baltimore pals, Josh Selby, a 6-3 combo guard out of Kansas. Selby is all but certain to be available when the Knicks, who own the 17thpick in Thursday's NBA draft, make their selection. New York Daily News

Shumpert, meanwhile, has gotten great support in the Knicks' board room in recent days, rising up the point-guard chart due to his workout two weeks. The 6-foot-5 Shumpert is now considered ahead of Michigan's Darius Morris and Kansas' Josh Selby because of his defensive ability and shooting from the perimeter. New York Post

Marshon Brooks and Josh Selby are expected to be among the group of draft prospects the Knicks bring in for a second workout. The Knicks own the 17th overall pick in Thursday's NBA Draft and are considering selecting a shooting guard. Brooks (pictured) was second in the nation in scoring last season at Providence while the explosive Selby spent one season at Kansas. It is unclear if Klay Thompson, a junior out of Washington State, has been invited back also. New York Daily News
