"This game has shown the immaturity of the Knicks team . the inexperience, maybe, in this situation. The playoffs are always a process and you have to learn as you go. They have learned something here," TNT analyst Steve Kerr said, according to a transcript of the broadcast. "You have to approach things in the playoffs in a very professional manner. You had the elbow from J.R. Smith that led to the suspension; a lot of trash talking the last couple of days; the shenanigans with wearing black. This is about executing and playing as a team and playing hard, and this is part of the process." Minneapolis Star-Tribune

J.R. Smith clearly does not take the Boston Celtics seriously. He's made that abundantly clear in his quotes after he was ejected in Game 3 for elbowing Jason Terry. He said if he hadn't been suspended, he would be playing golf on Tuesday and not at practice. He was also busy not saying Terry's name in interviews, kind of disregarding his existence. Smith has also made that clear with some of his recent behavior off the court. Via WhatsPoppin, here are some photos of Smith out on Monday night at Griffin NYC: CHARGED.fm

J.R. Smith said the Knicks would have swept Boston had he not been suspended for Game 4, but he helped the Celtics more than he did his own team in Game 5. Smith misfired on his first 10 shots and ended up 3-for-14. “I was extremely anxious,” Smith said. “Coming into the game a lot of fans really got hyped. I really couldn't wait to play. We got off to that great start, 11-0 run, and we just got too excited. We've just got to stay patient, stay humble and get ready for the next one.” Sulia

J.R. Smith thinks the New York Knicks would have swept the Boston Celtics if he had played in Game 4 of their first- round series. "Oh yeah, it would've been over," Smith said after Tuesday's practice. "I'd have been playing golf today." ESPN.com

JR Smith is looking for a long-term deal. His postseason performance may clinch his exit from New York as I have a player option on his contract for $ 2.9 million. The Knicks, who are well over the salary cap, would only be able to offer Smith their mini mid-level contract significant because they have no contracts coming off the books and will still be in luxury-tax territory. Boston Globe

The incident, for which Smith was assessed a Flagrant Foul 2 and ejected, occurred with 7:06 remaining in Friday’s Game 3. The Knicks lead the series 3-0, but their chances of posting a sweep and gaining extra rest will be compromised without Smith, their second-leading scorer. The incident also calls into question whether the flaky shooting guard is going to keep his head throughout an ongoing playoff journey. Smith has been ejected three times this season, all on the road, including regular-season games at Indiana and Golden State. “I’m always in J.R.’s ear,” coach Mike Woodson said. “That one incident [Friday] night is not going to deter me on how I think about J.R. He’s had a helluva year. He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do.’’ New York Post

The Knicks have outclassed Boston, holding them to 75 points per game on 39.5-percent shooting. “For this organization, it’s great for not only our players and ownership, it’s great for our fans,” Woodson said. “People who came out and pay their hard-earned money to watch us play, we had some tough years. They should be enjoying this.’’ Boston coach Doc Rivers fumed about the Smith elbow, saying he wished he was “still a player’’ so he could settled the score. The NBA may not have wanted Smith on the parquet today for fear of a potential rhubarb. “He’s handled it the right way,” Anthony said. “He felt bad about it. We accepted it and moved on.” New York Post

With 7:06 left to go in the fourth quarter, J.R. Smith was called for a flagrant 2 foul when his right elbow caught Jason Terry square in the face. That meant an automatic ejection for Smith, and it could have repercussions for Game 4 on Sunday as the Knicks try to close the Celtics out. Terry had to be restrained by teammates. “I was trying to draw the foul,” Smith said in the locker room after the game. “He reached in one time. I thought he was gonna reach in again a second time. I was gonna try to get a quick shot off, but they made a call that the refs saw. Not really much I could do about it.” Boston Globe

Smith said he was going to prepare to play on Sunday, though flagrant 2 fouls can come with fines or suspensions after they are reviewed by the league. “I don’t really know,” he said when asked if the ejection was warranted. “I’m not really the judge of that. I’m going to let them do what they do. I’m really trying to stay away from getting into it with the officials. I’ve got to keep my head. “It was a bad basketball play on my behalf just because I got kicked out of the game. My team needs me. Just got to get ready to play Sunday.” Boston Globe

Smith won the Sixth Man Award on Monday, capping his career season in which he became Carmelo Anthony’s star sidekick, averaging a career-best 18.1 points. Before Game 2 against Boston, Smith, long known as an underachieving renegade, received a thunderous standing ovation at the Garden when presented the trophy. “I got to give all the credit to Knicks organization and Coach Woodson,’’ Earl Smith told The Post yesterday. “When you got a coach like that, anything’s possible. New York Post

Earl said J.R.’s recent admission he partied too hard in his first season in New York was spot on. Smith signed with the Knicks last February after spending the lockout playing in China. “Coming from China he didn’t do anything for three, four months over there but eat and play,’’ Earl said. “There was no clubbing in China. Of course a young kid comes back and he got caught up with it. That whole experience humbled him, seeing how they lived.’’ The turning point for this season came in March when Smith made it his mission to attack the basket and not settle for his patented step-back jump shot that occasionally failed him.
