Many had thought Sampson's ties to the Bucks organization as a former Milwaukee assistant coach had him as a frontrunner once he was selected as one of two finalists, along with former Hawks head coach Larry Drew. Bucks' sideline reporter Telly Hughes told CSN Houston prior to the Bucks' final selection that he couldn't see how the Bucks could pass on Coach Sampson. Yet, that's what the Bucks did, going with Drew. "You're never surprised by anything in the NBA," Sampson said on Monday. "It would've been a great opportunity. But Senator Kohl, John Hammond... those guys made the decision they thought was best for them. I thank them for the opportunity and I think they selected an outstanding coach in Larry Drew." The Milwaukee Bucks are bringing back three candidates to interview a second time for the franchise's head coaching job, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Atlanta Hawks coach Larry Drew, Houston Rockets assistant Kelvin Sampson and Los Angeles Lakers assistant Steve Clifford will meet with Bucks officials this week in Milwaukee, sources said. Yahoo! Sports

Clifford will visit Milwaukee again on Tuesday, and Sampson and Drew on Wednesday, league sources said. Bucks general manager John Hammond has a stronger history with Sampson – who spent two years on the Milwaukee staff under Scott Skiles – but has been increasingly impressed with the possibilities with Clifford, sources said. Clifford has come strongly recommended by three former coaching colleagues that Hammond respects – Chicago's Tom Thibodeau and Stan and Jeff Van Gundy. Yahoo! Sports

Brandon Jennings unofficially threw his support behind Rockets assistant coach Kelvin Sampson in the Bucks’ search for a new head coach. Jennings posted a picture of he and Sampson, who was an assistant with the Bucks for three seasons before he went to Houston to become Kevin McHale’s top assistant. As a caption, he added, “This my guy for Life. He needs to be a Head Coach in the NBA.” Sampson interviewed for the Milwaukee coaching vacancy nearly three weeks ago and Jennings, of course, is a restricted free agent. Behind The Buck Pass

And what of the head-coaching position? The hot names that are out there have been said over and over and over again - from Mike Malone to Fred Hoiberg to Kelvin Sampson to Nate McMillan to Larry Drew to Michael Curry and everyone in between. Said yet another league executive: "I hear the coaching search isn't at the top of their list right now. I hear they're concentrating on other areas and will address the coaching vacancy after a couple of weeks." Philadelphia Inquirer
