Later, Durant chewed out Serge Ibaka for failing to grab a rebound. And of course there was the usual head-shaking between Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins whenever the paint went left unprotected. The problem is everyone has an opinion and everyone is sharing it. It can’t be that way. There should be two voices on the court. Durant’s. And Westbrook’s. Everyone else needs to fall in line. What’s happening now is that everyone is acting like they know best, almost like they’re the reason for the team’s success, like their poop doesn’t stink and the man’s next to them does. And you can’t help but wonder how much of the attitude has to do with last year’s success and whether it will soon subside or only fester and grow fangs. Oklahoman

“You’ve got to just leave it up to James’ agent and the Thunder organization,” agreed Kendrick Perkins. “Obviously everybody would just love to say, ‘Oh yeah, we got our team, James signed,’ but it’s not that easy. In a perfect world, it would be, but it’s still business they’ve got to take care of. At the end of the day, we still love James and embrace him and he’s still part of our team; so he’s here, and we’re trying to kick off training camp.” HoopsWorld

Perkins' true insight came when asked if he would reach out to Harden and convince him to stay. Kendrick Le'Dale Perkins is a menacing guy. One scowl might be enough to scare Harden into signing, but evidently Perk doesn't anticipate the need for a stare-down. "The thing is, once James gets here, there's nothing to be said," Perkins said following a Thunder Fit clinic at Deer Creek Middle School on Sept. 12. "He'll see his family (teammates) and that's all he'll need. He just needs to be here, so once he sees everybody's faces, that's enough said." Oklahoman

Perkins is an unpleasant type who isn't great at scoring or rebounding but is very accomplished at hating, just ask Pau Gasol. The Lakers power forward, however, shouldn't feel special. Perkins is quite open and generous when it comes to being ornery. "He gives us an edge," Brooks said. "He hates his opponent. He's not happy unless he's unhappy. His teammates love him. He's always in a bad mood. I love guys who go out on the court and compete. He's not shaking hands and trying to be buddy buddy. He respects them, but he's going to try to beat them and then move on." Orange County Register

As long as Perkins is physically capable, he's the starter, and he let that be known after a Thunder Fit clinic at Deer Creek Middle School last Wednesday. “We're all teammates, but at the end of the day, the center position over here is mine and that's the way we're going to keep it,” said Perkins, wearing a brace on his left wrist. “Any other way, backup minutes or whatever they want to go about, that's their problem. Once I hit the court, I'm going to make it known — and it's going to be known — that that's mine. “It's no beef, but at the end of the day, that's what it is.” Oklahoman

With the deadline fast approaching for the Thunder to come to terms on a contract extension for James Harden, a potential sliver of hope was heard Wednesday afternoon. Thunder center Kendrick Perkins, speaking following an appearance at a Thunder Fit event at a local middle school, said the two sides are “getting close” on a deal that would keep the reigning Sixth Man of the Year in Oklahoma City. “We’re doing good. We’re making positive steps going forward,” Perkins said of the organization’s off-season. “We got coach (Scott) Brooks locked in. We got Serge (Ibaka) locked in. And we’re getting close with James, and we’re getting close to keeping our unit together. And we’re still hungry.” Oklahoman

Training camp is scheduled to begin Oct. 1, and Perkins said he is confident that when Harden returns he’ll naturally want to remain with the team that drafted him third overall in 2009 without anybody needing to convince him to do so. “Once James gets here it’s nothing to be said,” Perkins said. “He’ll see his family and that’s all he needs. So once he sees everybody’s faces that’s enough said.” Oklahoman

Finally, Kendrick Perkins underwent surgery today in Philadelphia to repair the hip injury that plagued him throughout the postseason. He will be on the shelf for three to four weeks. Perkins had originally said the injury that was listed as a right hip strain wouldn’t require surgery. But further examination recently revealed that it did. Oklahoman
