Kenyon Martin got in Ivan Johnson’s face after he and J.R. Smith got tangled up. Martin said he told Johnson: “not here, not today.” Martin has always been one to get his teammates’ back. It’s another example of the toughness he brings to the Knicks. “You know what I do, man,” Martin said. “I’ve got to protect my guys. Him and J.R. got tangled up or what not and I just let him know, ‘Not here, not today.’ It won’t go past today. It’s just basketball. Sulia

Martin is enjoying his experience in New York. “I would love to stay a Knick,” he said. “I don’t want to go nowhere. I am proving to this organization what I can be and who I am as a person on and off the court, and I think they see that. I’m here now and I’m going to make the best of this opportunity.” Boston Globe

With injuries to Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler and Amar’e Stoudemire, the Knicks were more desperate and willing to take a chance on Martin. It’s worked out quite well for New York. Martin is averaging 8.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 23.1 minutes per game, starting six of the 11 games. “I think Kenyon’s been great,” Rivers said of the former All-American out of Cincinnati. “He’s been absolutely fantastic. I’m happy for Kenyon. I’m not happy that he went to the Knicks, but I am happy for him. Because he was out there and we looked at him — a lot of [teams] looked at him — and, in the end, I didn’t care where he ended up, I just wanted him to do well. I don’t know him well, but we’ve always had a very good relationship. Guys like that, you want them to do well. For me, it’s as simple as that.” WEEI.com

Rumors were if #Knicks didn't snatch Kenyon Martin at trade deadline, Miami would have. That's news to Martin. Kenyon said the Heat never called is agent Andy Miller. Martin said with his charming candor if the Heat did, he'd be in South Beach today. In fact, Martin was so desperate to play, he would've joined the Bobcats if they made the first offer. It was first come, first served. Sulia

Martin showed his frustration midway through the fourth quarter. He swung at Ryan Hollins and fouled him hard on the arm. After the whistle, Hollins slowly walked away in pain from an angry Martin. After a video review, the referees upgraded Martin’s foul to a flagrant one. When asked if he thought he deserved a flagrant foul, Martin responded: “I don’t get involved with that, man. I’ve been around the league way too long. You know I ain’t going to comment on that.” Then came the next question: Is there any bad blood between you and the Clippers? “Next question, man,” Martin answered with a stern look. New York Times

The Clippers had eight dunks against the Knicks. Martin does not see that style of play translating well in the postseason. He remembers how the Clippers were swept by the San Antonio Spurs in the second round last year. “You can’t do it in the playoffs, so it don’t matter,” he said. “In the regular season it’s all up and down, man. We know the way the game goes in the regular season.” When asked how the Clippers would do in the playoffs, Martin gave a short answer that shouldn’t surprise many people. “I don’t care what they do,” he said, smiling. “I hope they lose every game. I don’t care.” New York Times

Kenyon Martin will be sticking around for the rest of the season. As expected the Knicks signed the veteran power forward for the rest of the season after his second 10-day contract expired. Newsday

The Knicks said that Anthony and Tyson Chandler (left knee contusion) are both questionable for Sunday afternoon's game at 3:30 p.m. There is no status yet on Kenyon Martin, who suffered a knee bone contusion in the Knicks' loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night. "When a key guy goes down that's a big piece, a major piece to your puzzle, sure you've got to worry," coach Mike Woodson said Thursday on ESPN New York 98.7 FM radio. "There's no doubt I'm worried. There's no doubt that I'm worried about Carmelo. But I'm worried about our team as a whole with how we're playing. Coming out of that Utah game at home, these past two games have been a nightmare for all of us." ESPN.com

The Knicks, of course, have the option to get rid of Martin at the end of his current 10-day deal. That wasn't likely to happen before the Stoudemire injury and it's almost definitely not going to happen now. They could also cut Wallace and use the roster spot to add a player. But as long as Martin is healthy and effective, there may not be a need to let Wallace go. Not with Kenyon ready for his close-up. "It's unfortunate, with Amar'e going down, that you have to benefit from something like that," he said. "But I'm going to take advantage of that and try to help this team win." ESPN.com
