An NBA locker room, like any other sport, has its cliques, especially among European players. And alpha-dogs bark big. For a while there, the Nuggets had the Mount Rushmore of NBA egos in the same room — Allen Iverson, Kenyon Martin, J.R. Smith and Anthony. One time, Smith had Martin's car filled with buttered popcorn, and Martin came storming into the locker room, screaming expletives and threatening violence. Denver Post

Kenyon Martin no longer will rotate games, according to a source. His platoon with Amar’e Stoudemire officially is over — at least on Martin’s end. Stoudemire may continue to play every other game for the time being, though Woodson hasn’t been clear. A new firm arrangement is in place where Martin has been cleared by the medical staff to play every game — unless his ankles are hurting, according to sources. New York Post

Martin, the backup battling chronic ankle issues, trashed the Knicks’ performance and said he wishes he could have been let loose on Tim Duncan and Tiago Splitter in the disgrace at the Garden. That night, Dolan guaranteed victory in Atlanta on stage at a Manhattan club while playing with his blues band. “Sunday wasn’t easy by any stretch of the imagination not just for me but for the whole organization — to go out there and lay an egg like that on your home floor,’’ Martin said after Tuesday’s practice. “People pay hard-earned money to come see us play. We shouldn’t put a performance like that out there.’’ Woodson explained he didn’t play Martin in Sunday’s game because the score was too lopsided and wanted to stick to the platoon with Stoudemire in which they rotate games. “It wasn’t worth doing it,’’ Woodson said. The Knicks rather put themselves in this situation by assembling a roster with only five recognised big men. They never gave themselves enough ammunition to weather a storm of injuries, and they especially needed to do so in light of how injury prone their big man rotation is. Included in those five are Chandler (who once failed a physical exam, rescinding a trade that would have affected the outcome of at least one NBA championship), Kenyon Martin (who gets injured so often that his contract this year becomes unguaranteed if he misses more than 15 games due to pre-existing knee injuries), Andrea Bargnani (66 games combined over the last two seasons) and Amar'e Stoudemire (so famously fragile he's on a minutes limit). Woodson is alternating playing Martin and Amar’e Stoudemire in back-to-back games, but he chose to sit Stoudemire while opting to play Martin on Sunday even though the team had two days in between games. In a bizarre and entertaining postgame interview, Martin seemed not to know that Woodson only intended him to play 10 minutes while explaining he has the resolve and toughness to play a lot more than that. “Who said that?” Martin said of the minutes cap. “It’s whatever, man. I’m not going to go keep going back and forth. Whatever the minutes are I’m going to play. If it’s 5, 10, 20, I’m going to play them and play them hard. Whatever it is, man. I’ve been doing this too long. I’ve done played with worse things than a little ankle injury. New York Daily News

“Kenyon Martin was over there talking about the fake K-Mart, and I said, ‘Who?’” Love said. “He’s 5-for-5 from 3-point range with 30 points, so right now that’s the real K-Mart to me after tonight.” . . . Another Metta World Peacism: The always quotable Metta World Peace had this to say of the technical foul he picked up in the second quarter: “I was being annoying. Sometimes when I get techs, they are annoying techs.” New York Daily News
