The Oklahoma City head coaching job was believed to be between Florida’s Billy Donovan and UConn’s Kevin Ollie. Not so, per a source. The Thunder never approached Ollie about the job. Oklahoma City GM Sam Presti has enormous respect for Ollie, who was a member of the Thunder front office before taking a job with the Huskies, but the team was locked in on Donovan from the start. Connecticut's Kevin Ollie had negotiated too enormous of a buyout into his contract – $5 million – and that was a non-starter for the Thunder. Ollie had a unique history and connection with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, but Donovan has a longer, sturdier coaching pedigree. Yahoo! Sports

What do you make of Ollie’s statements that he’s not interested in leaving UConn and conflicting reports that say he is indeed listening to the Thunder about its current vacancy? Well, of course, Kevin is known as a man of his word. This is probably the major reason the Thunder folks think so highly of him, because he is trustworthy and has such integrity. If this were another coach, I’d say, ‘yeah, sure …’ But Kevin has always been true to his word and I think how he is perceived in this area matters greatly to him. So I think he means what he says and says what he means. Of course, there has been back-channel contact and he’s communicated his feelings. Oklahoman

Though Ollie has a $5 million buyout, the source said the buyout is “nothing” if the Thunder are committed to landing him. The source said Ollie is “torn because he loves Connecticut, it’s his alma mater, he believes in his ability and he thinks that UConn can be a top program.” ZagsBlog.com

Ollie teamed with Thunder stars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook in Oklahoma City and remains close with GM Sam Presti. Ollie is considered to be one of the keys to convincing Durant to remain in Oklahoma City after he enters free agency in 2016, although no one can know for certain what Durant’s plans are, the source said.
