HoopsHype Kevin Seraphin rumors

April 15, 2013 Updates

Wizards forward-center Kevin Seraphin heads into this offseason having to decide between advancing his NBA career or maintaining his commitment to his country. Seraphin has played a prominent role for the French national team in each of the past two summers and helped France finish sixth at the London Olympics. But Seraphin’s third season with the Wizards fell short of his expectations despite averaging a career-high nine points per game, leaving his participation at 2013 Eurobasket in Slovenia in doubt. “I don’t know. That’s something that I really want to,” Seraphin said of representing France, “but the thing is now, I try to improve. The [Wizards] want me to improve, too. I try to be better for my team, for sure.” Washington Post

Wizards Kevin Seraphin has managed to combine two of my addictions into one package: Harlem Shake videos and athletes doing silly things. Here is Seraphin’s contribution to the Harlem Shake phenomenon. Adorable. Washington Post

“I was very clear to him [Saturday] about how he played,” Nene said. Against Chicago, Seraphin scored 12 points and had six assists, but he got to the free throw line just once. “He played much better,” Nene said, comparing Seraphin’s performance against the Bulls to an outing he’d had two games earlier against Cleveland, when Seraphin had just four points, no rebounds, and no trips to the line. After that game, Nene said he had gotten mad at Seraphin and told him to start playing better. “There are a lot of things he needs to clean up,” Nene said. “He has a lot of bad habits he needs to fix.” Washington Times

The Wizards had just lost their eighth straight game, an 87-84 defeat to the Cavaliers, and Seraphin was hardly noticeable with four points and no rebounds in 12 minutes. The third-year forward rolled his chair over to talk with the 11-year NBA veteran and got an earful. “He was really mad at me,” Seraphin said. “He’s like the leader right now. He’s trying to help the team the best way and he really thinks I’m an important player for this team and I’ve been struggling for like the last five games and he told me that. “He told me straight up, ‘You should play more than 12 minutes.’ I’m supposed to be ready for the game. I’m supposed to play good. He said, ‘Maybe if you were playing good, maybe we got more chances to win the game.’ That’s what he told me, he was just like, he was mad.” CSNWashington.com

Forward David West made back-to-back jumpers to help the Pacers hold on and the Wizards had to once again discuss coming up short in a game that they could’ve won if not for a poor execution down the stretch and an even poorer start. “Always the same story,” Kevin Seraphin said after scoring 13 points off the bench. “We have to fight all the game to come back. But that’s difficult. We play some good teams. This is the NBA. That’s a league with no mercy. If you don’t start right, you already lost the game.” Washington Post

Wizards people talk about Seraphin’s strong work ethic; he actually enjoys being coached. Fans should look for Seraphin to start drawing double teams regularly. Then, sit back and watch as he beats them with his nifty footwork and nice shooting touch. You may not want to leave your seat when Seraphin has the ball down low. You just may miss seeing a great jump-hook shot. Washington Post

I knew that Kevin Seraphin had a large tattoo on his back. But I wasn’t sure what it meant, so last week I finally asked him. Which is how I learned that this elaborate design was actually the first (and only) tattoo of his life. “The tattoo guy was like, seriously?” Seraphin told me. “You know what you’re doing? For your first tattoo, a big one like that? I was like yeah.” Washington Post

If Kevin Seraphin isn’t playing well, he could blame lack of nutrition. On Saturday he tweeted a pic of his dinner, clearly unhappy with the cost of his measly portion of salmon. Monday night, things weren’t much better for the big man. “What? For $21?” I heard from behind me in the locker room. I turned around and Kevin Seraphin was sitting in front of his locker looking at a portion of pasta the size of his fist and shaking his head. To be fair, he has a sizeable fist, but he couldn’t believe he paid $21 for it. “They act like I’m rich,” he laughed. Washington Post

During the Wizards' loss to the Trail Blazers Saturday night, Camby shoved the Wizards' Seraphin to the floor after the two battled for rebounding position. Seraphin bounced right back up, ready to challenge Camby, but the two ended up separated as everyone gathered around. “I don’t really know why he got mad, because I just boxed him out,” Seraphin told reporters. “Then he just pushed me like that, and I can’t let people push me like that.” CSNWashington.com
