Game 4’s foul disparity — the 76ers attempted 36 free throws to the Celtics [team stats]’ 19 — has found the Celtics on their best behavior, sort of. “Let’s not go there,” Keyon Dooling said. Rivers initially offered a verbal bouquet yesterday when he said, “I’m not mad at the officials. I love the officials. We had a big lead and all of a sudden they started going to the line, which allowed them to get back into the game. We have to stop fouling, or we have to get fouled — one of the two. Clearly it didn’t favor us.” . . . Boston Herald

Dooling would be a logical front office candidate considering his experience with the business side of the game. As the vice president of the NBA Players Association, he was in the thick of last summer’s lockout. “The union experience was great,” Dooling said. “Just being able to negotiate against some of the best businessmen in the world with our owners it was a great experience. To see the way (commissioner) David Stern runs his ship over there is amazing. It really gives you something to look forward to maybe for the next phase of your career.” Dooling has other business ventures outside of basketball, but it’s hard to imagine him straying far from the game. “We don’t just live in the basketball world,” Dooling said. “I have other things running parallel to my career, but basketball is my passion.” Boston Herald

Players Association Executive Committee member Keyon Dooling of the Celtics said he doesn’t believe this season will serve as a cautionary tale for the next labor talks about the perils of an abbreviated season. “When you are fighting for your position on both sides, you will exert all resources to win,’’ said Dooling. “And health is secondary to the business. It is what it is. It’s like nothing you can explain as an athlete. “It’s grueling. It’s definitely taken years off players’ careers, no doubt about that. Good players are probably going to have injuries that linger throughout their careers because of a condensed schedule. Boston Globe

Though the loss snapped a four-game winning streak, the 4-4 Celtics also have yet to beat a playoff-quality team. They tied the franchise record for fewest points in a half with last night’s 25-point first half — made possible by 26.5 percent shooting. It was seemingly the worst slog that any of these Celtics have witnessed. “No, I’ve seen everything,” Keyon Dooling said. “I was a Net.” Paul Pierce finished with 10 points on 3-of-17 shooting, Kevin Garnett was barely visible with 12 points and six boards, and Rajon Rondo [stats] checked out with a near-double-double of 11 points and nine assists that was instantly forgettable. The Bucks sent veteran guard Keyon Dooling and a protected 2012 second-round draft pick to the Boston Celtics on Friday. The move clears a roster spot and saves the Bucks $2.1 million in salary owed to Dooling on the final year of his contract. The Bucks receive the rights to forward-center Albert Miralles in the deal, but sources indicated he will not play for Milwaukee but is a piece in the trade. Miralles, a Barcelona native, was a second-round pick by Toronto in the 2004 draft (and was traded to Miami on draft night) but has never played in the NBA. Boston later picked up his rights. The Bucks are sending veteran guard Keyon Dooling and a protected second-round 2012 draft pick to Boston, a league source confirmed Thursday night. Dooling was not expected to return to the Bucks this season and had made it clear he wanted to be traded after the Bucks acquired guards Shaun Livingston and Beno Udrih in a draft-day trade. Dooling will make $2.1 million this season so that number will come off the Bucks' books and be available for use elsewhere. The Bucks and Celtics will be able to complete the trade Friday when transactions are allowed, following Thursday's ratification of the new collective bargaining agreement by league players and owners. The Celtics are going to announce the acquisition of veteran point guard Keyon Dooling from the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday, the first day of training camp and trades can become official, according to a league source. The deal is expected to include a second-round draft pick headed to Milwaukee and it gives the Celtics a veteran backup point guard behind Rajon Rondo, who remains a Celtic after Chris Paul was dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers. The deal is somewhat complicated because the Celtics are over the salary cap. Boston Globe

It preserved Hunter’s power, his standing with the attorneys, Jeffrey Kessler and David Boies. No one does self-preservation like Hunter. When I asked executive committee member Keyon Dooling why the union hadn’t done this in July, when it was already known the NBA would never negotiate a favorable deal with the union, he couldn’t answer the question. These were the same player reps Hunter convinced to spend hundreds of thousands of the union’s dollars – who knows, maybe more – on legal fees to chase an unfair labor practice case against the NBA. Forget decertification, Hunter told the agents and players. They could file that expensive, time-consuming grievance with the National Labor Relations Board and get back on the floor. The NLRB hasn’t ruled on the case, and never will because Hunter’s disclaimer means the filing has to be dropped. Yahoo! Sports

"The beautiful thing about being an American is freedom and the ability to choose," said Dooling, a Milwaukee Bucks guard and a vice president on the National Basketball Players Association executive committee. "There are a lot of guys who choose to stay, a la Kevin Durant. It's not about going or staying -- it's about having that ability to either go or stay. The freedom to choose between Milwaukee and Chicago is important to me as a player." NBA.com

Asked if he had been promised any type of post-playing career work by anyone in the NBA, either directly or indirectly through other parties, Fisher shook his head no and started to speak, but was then interrupted by one of the union's vice presidents, Bucks guard Keyon Dooling, whose testimonial to Fisher was followed by similar sentiments from Wizards forward Mo Evans and Spurs forward Matt Bonner. "I think he's the best president we've ever had," Dooling said. "I think he's articulate enough to relay the message. I think he's tough enough to get his feet dirty, to get his hands dirty. He's on the ground level with us. It really pains me, because not only do I look at Derek as a leader, but I look at him as a mentor. To hear all the confusion and the things that's being written and said about him, and what it does for our fight and our cause, it does a lot of detriment. And that's not even the true internal battle. I don't think the battle is within our union ... I'm the first vice president. And I stand behind him, and I stand behind Mr. Hunter." NBA.com

"The Big Assist" was a one-day food giveaway, hosted by New Orleans' Trevor Ariza and Milwaukee's Keyon Dooling and his Gametyme Foundation. Approximately 265 underprivileged families received care packages that included food, hygiene products, school supplies, canned food and other essential products. The idea for the giveaway was Dooling's, who has done four such stops over the past week. "Our county has hit a rough spell and there's love that needs to be given out," said Dooling, vice president of the NBA players union. "...I'm an American and I'm very sensitive to the issues that are plaguing our country. I'm very aware of the unions across the country—the teachers or police – and our fight is no different than theirs. "Although it (NBA lockout) in the public eye, it's just as significant as everyone's own individual struggle and we're all apart of the same struggle as Americans." Dooling first contacted several sponsors, who donated food items such as oatmeal, jelly, canned pasta, soup and vegetables, while other companies donated toothpaste, tissue and laundry soap.
