Ginobili’s strong belief in Messina is shared by Kiki Vandeweghe, the former Nets’ GM who started working for the NBA in April in a multifaceted role primarily involving basketball operations. He hired Messina as his first summer league coach when he ran the Nuggets from 2001-06. “He didn’t have a problem at all,’’ Vandeweghe said. “I think the players respect his knowledge of the game. He is tremendous in getting through with his message. And they saw that he could help them get better. When players see that you are going to help them get better, then they’ll listen to you." Tyson Chandler: A big part of that preparation involved working with former Knick Kiki Vandeweghe before the Olympics. He really helped me out with my footwork, jumpshot, being aggressive and a lot of mental things. It was really good for me. I always play up-tempo and fast, so I worked with him on slowing it down and making an impact on offense as much as I do on defense. I've had a relationship with Kiki for my entire career, and he's always been around -- even when he was with different teams. He lives maybe 15, 20 minutes from me in California in the summertime, so it's a great connection. ESPN.com
