Shortly after Thursday's victory over the Heat in summer-league play, the Pistons released 24-year-old second-year guard Kim English. The second year of the two-year deal he signed after he was taken in the second round of the 2012 draft was not guaranteed and he now becomes an unrestricted free agent. Detroit Free Press

English remains confident that even if the Pistons decide to part ways, he will find a landing spot. “I’m just playing. I think I’ll be in this league a long time with my ability to shoot the ball and defend,” English said. “I’m just staying in the moment, and I’ll keep playing.” Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars said Wednesday that no decision has been made on English’s status. Detroit Pistons forward Jonas Jerebko was treating the summer like he usually does. Hanging out at the practice facility Thursday morning, he was shooting around with teammates Khris Middleton and Kim English, informally. Then he realized it was time to get formal when new coach Maurice Cheeks walked in. “I had a couple flip-flops on, messing around and he told us, ‘When you’re in there, you’ve got to put in work,’ ” Jerebko said Thursday at the Palace following Cheeks’ introductory news conference. “He told us on Day 1 what he wanted, so I definitely respect that. ... I was encouraged. That’s what you want as a player, you want somebody to tell you what to do. I won’t be wearing my flip-flops out there no more.” Detroit Free Press
