As with most who made the leap directly from high school to the NBA, back when the rules allowed such a situation, Williams didn’t realize all it took to be competitive in the NBA. And he languished on a veteran team, playing just 145 minutes as a rookie and 688 during this second year. Since then his minutes have increased and he has scored in double figures in each of the past five seasons. “When he first came in, he was hard to guard, a very good one-on-one player but he has really grown, his feel for the game, his maturity and he has learned how to be a pro,” said Chicago Bulls swingman Kyle Korver, a former teammate of Williams. Kyle Korver: Right about now, the disbelief has faded, anger has subsided and were all wondering... why? Why. Why. Why Derrick, again? Derrick is more than an MVP to our team. He's our friend, our brother he inspires us to be the very best we can be, just by who he is and how hard he plays. That he has spent so much time this year hurt, was frustrating. Now that he is out for the rest of the season, well its just plain sad. No one is to blame; what happened, did. We send him our prayers, our love, our good wishes that he heals and comes back stronger, better, healthier than ever before. Bulls fans. Now is not the time to ask why or to get bitter. Now is the time to refocus and ask "How are we going to win this Championship?" We have the best Team in the league. This season has proven, we are a TEAM and it has taken us ALL to have the best record. Lets focus on whats ahead. This is an incredible opportunity for All of Us to step up and make it happen. We're all gonna have to work harder and smarter. We are all gonna have to believe in ourselves. That we are more than the sum of our parts. We need YOU to believe with Us. We need You to believe for Us. We are going to keep going strong. One quarter, one game, one round at a time. Until its over. That's how we're gonna do it. Facebook.com |

Sitting, watching, replaying and studying has taken on a greater priority through six weeks of this hectic 2011-12 schedule because, let's face it, there's been such little time for anything else. No time for a full-scale practice or often a shootaround in the middle of back-to-backs on the road. No bounce-back from actual games. Time has been on no one's side. You want to pause for anything, really, you'd better have a remote control in your hand. NBA players have their noses stuck in video games at a rate that would alarm their teachers and parents, if these guys were all 15 or 20 years young. "We're on video all the time," the Chicago Bulls' Kyle Korver said. "When you have time off, you're not doing anything. I'm not walking the dog, I'm not doing anything like that. When I've got time off, I'm on the couch." NBA.com |

![]() Contrary to popular belief, Korver doesn't seem to think there's a job overseas for every NBA player that wants one. "I really don't think the opportunity's there for everybody like everybody seems to think there is," he said. "If something great came up, obviously you would look at it and probably take [it]. You only get to play basketball at a professional level for so long. You got to find something else to do. You get a little old. But I'm not actively [searching for a job overseas]. I just got married. I'm going to enjoy that and get ready for this basketball season. I still have hope that it's going to happen. We'll kind of see from there. ESPN.com "If you're an All-Star, I think you can go over there and make some pretty good money, but if you're not, there's only so many teams that are reliable to pay. If something comes across, obviously you look at it, and if it's a good deal you probably take it. But I don't have my agent scouring Europe for a contract for me." ESPN.com Korver, who is in Utah for the weekend doing various charity events for his foundation, doesn't sound optimistic that the NBA season will start any time soon. "I have not heard many good things," he said. "I haven't heard a real sense of urgency to be honest. It feels like the owners have it set in their minds what they're going [to want] ... they haven't budged one bit. It's hard to negotiate when only one side is willing to negotiate, and that's what it feels like right now. If you're on the other side of a negotiation and you know the other side's not budging, how do you really talk to them? "It's not going well ... for sure, it looks like the season's not going to start on time. It's really frustrating because the NBA's never been more successful. It's never made more money. From [the players'] standpoint, you don't understand why ... how do you lose money? I don't understand. The NBA made like $2.4 billion this year. So that's frustrating. Especially coming off a year where your team did well and you want to keep building on that, and you're being locked out and not being able to play." ESPN.com Deron Williams makes his official public return to Utah on Saturday. The ex-Jazz point guard will join former Utah teammate Kyle Korver in hosting their third-annual dodgeball tournament, a charity event that will be held at The Factory in Lehi. "We expect to have a good turnout," said Jeff Smith, a business associate and family member of Williams'. Salt Lake Tribune |

Deron Williams and Kyle Korver are hosting their charity dodgeball tournament again this summer. And, no, it won't be held in Turkey, Chicago or New Jersey. The two former Utah Jazz players will return to the Beehive State on Aug. 27 for their third-annual event. Proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Club through Williams' The Point of Hope Foundation and the Utah chapter of Korver's Seer Group charity. Though neither NBA player plays for the Jazz any longer, they both wanted to come back to their old homes for the popular tournament. "After spending six years playing ball in Utah, I feel a strong connection to that community," Williams, who was traded to the Nets in February after being with the Jazz since 2005, said in a statement. ![]() Chicago Bulls forward Kyle Korver made an appearance with his brother Klayton to promote his clothing line at Block 37 on State Street, but the talk wasn't just about his designer apparel and The Kyle Korver Foundation. With the NBA still in a lockout, Korver expressed his frustration about the possibility of losing an entire season. "It's a shame," Korver said. "The NBA makes too much money for everybody not to be making a little bit already, right?" CSN Chicago |

![]() Shell-shocked doesn't begin to describe the last 14 months in the life of Thomas the turtle. The odyssey includes the injured 20-pound reptile, a rock-DJ icon at WMMR-FM (93.3), an ex-76er, and a wildlife rehabilitation center in Roxborough. They were brought together on the night of May 25, 2010, when the snapping turtle tried to cross Route 23 near Conshohocken and was hit by a car. That night, the disc jockey - Pierre Robert - saved its life. On Wednesday, they were reunited to celebrate Thomas' recovery and its return to the wilds of Gladwyne. The turtle stepped gingerly into the waters of the Schuylkill in Flat Rock Park, paddling away from the crew that made sure it got a second chance. Philadelphia Inquirer The turtle tale began when Robert - who is approaching his 30th anniversary at the radio station - was driving along Route 23 and spotted something in the roadway. When he got close, Robert realized it was a turtle. "Its shell was cracked, and I said, 'Oh my God, it's dead,' " Robert recounted. "Then its head moved in and out of the shell, and I saw bright-red blood coming out. It crushed me." Robert called the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education and the organization's Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic. Rick Schubert, the center's director of wildlife rehabilitation, told him to bring in the turtle. Meanwhile, another car pulled over to help. It was Kyle Korver, an ex-76er who plays for the Chicago Bulls. Korver, a friend of Robert's who still spends time in the area, coincidentally was driving by. "There was blood everywhere," Korver said in an interview. "I didn't think [the turtle] was going to make it." Korver fetched a shopping bag from his SUV. Robert picked up the snapping turtle - a dangerous maneuver, Schubert later told him - and put it in the bag. Philadelphia Inquirer On Wednesday, the turtle was well enough to leave the place where it had spent more than a year in a kiddie pool, receiving calcium supplements and dining on euthanized mice. Miles away from the big event, Korver, 30, said he was happy about Thomas' good fortune. "It's very cool." Robert felt equally good, calling the "small victory" a great thing. "Live long and prosper," Robert said just before Thomas paddled away. "Rock on, brother!" Philadelphia Inquirer |

![]() This three-day layoff doesn’t sit well with Kyle Korver. ‘‘I don’t like it,’’ Korver, eager to atone for 1-for-7 shooting in Game 2, said Friday. ‘‘Especially after you lose, you want to get back out there and play. Back-to-backs stink. But if you lose in the first one, you don’t have to talk about missing shots for three days. You get to go out there and make some shots. And then it’s a different line of questioning. But we don’t make the rules.’’ Chicago Sun-Times |

"Our execution could be a lot better," Bulls guard Kyle Korver told reporters Monday. "We're trying to find our flow at that end. A lot of it has to do with how they're trapping Derrick. We're not getting into our sets really quick. We see the shot clock is at seven [seconds] or eight, and we're like, 'Oh, we can't run our whole play now.' So we have to get in our sets quicker. We've talked a lot about that the last couple of days." NBA.com |

![]() Derrick Rose’s late first-quarter ankle injury likely put the collective mindset of Bulls fans in a state of panic and rightfully so. His coaches and teammates were similarly concerned. “Oh, we were all scared, for sure, when he goes down. A lot of guys in the NBA, they get hurt or they get bumped, they really milk it. They want everybody to know that they’re playing in pain,” said Kyle Korver. There’s a lot of those guys out there and Derrick’s not one of them. He had to roll it pretty good, so you’re definitely worried.” CSN Chicago |
