Spirou Basket officially announced today, April the 20th, the signing of swingman Kyle Weaver for the remainder of the season. Weaver, who played his college ball at Washington State University and was drafted by the Charlotte Bobcats in 2008, logged 68 games in the NBA between the 2008-2009 and the 2009-2010 seasons for the Oklahoma City Thunder, averaging about 19 minutes-per-game. Kyle Weaver's tenure with the Utah Jazz and return to the NBA proved to be short-lived. The Jazz decided not to re-sign the versatile 6-foot-6 combo guard after his initial 10-day contract expired Saturday. "It just didn't work out," Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said. Weaver's call-up from the D-League was necessary a week and a half ago when the Jazz were down to one point guard because of injuries to Devin Harris and Ronnie Price. Deseret News ![]() Kyle Weaver's latest stint in the NBA might be over by the time you read this with your cereal today. Or, he hopes, it might end about the time you attack the fridge for a midnight snack Wednesday. The D-League call-up's 10-day contract with the Utah Jazz expired Saturday, so he packed everything he brought with him from Austin to be ready for either scenario. "I don't want this to happen (be cut)," he said at Saturday morning's shootaround. "But you've got to expect the worst and hope for the best and prepare for what happens." Deseret News |

Jody Genessy: Jazz still haven't made a decision on Kyle Weaver. He isn't needed quite as much now that Devin is back. Jazz have to decide by Sunday. Twitter Guard Kyle Weaver has been a pleasant surprise since joining the Jazz a week ago out of the D-League. With the team down to only 10 players, including him, it's likely he'll be signed to stay with Utah through the end of the season. But because his 10-day contract expires after today's game against San Antonio, the guard said he packed up all of the belongings he brought with him from Austin just in case. Deseret News The Jazz are down to just 10 active players and have only nine healthy ones — center Francisco Elson isn’t 100 percent — but guard Kyle Weaver is unsure if he will end his season here. The Jazz signed him to a 10-day contract last Thursday. The deal expires Sunday, which bridges Utah’s two upcoming road games. Corbin said he doesn’t know whether Weaver will receive a second 10-day. Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor said that the organization planned to keep a close eye on the former D-Leaguer during his 10-day run, and Utah coach Tyrone Corbin has already been impressed with Weaver’s dedication and drive. The aggressive but smooth attack Weaver delivered against the Kings; his energy, confidence and professional delivery — all traits that Corbin has called for from better-paid players performing with the security of guaranteed contracts. Today the Utah Jazz announced they have signed former Thunder guard Kyle Weaver. Weaver is a 6’6 201 pound combo guard who played his college ball at Washington State. Weaver played portions of the last two season in the NBA with the Thunder totaling 68 games and has played this year in the D-League after being the final cut by the Bulls. NBA.com Former Jazz beatwriter Ross Siler noted on Twitter that he was rather impressed the Jazz would take a chance on Weaver so late in the season considering the team is currently 5.5 games out of the playoffs with seven games left to play. I'm impressed that the Jazz, with their luxury-tax payroll, would keep spending to take a look at Weaver in final weeks of lost season. It'll cost the Jazz more than $100,000 in salary and luxury-tax payments for the 10 days Weaver is under contract. Again, I'm impressed. A lot of teams also would wait until Friday to make the signing, since the Jazz don't play again until then. Ridiculous Upside The Jazz plan to sign guard Kyle Weaver to a 10-day contract, calling the 6-foot-6, 200-pound player up from the NBA Development League's Austin Toros. Utah general manager Kevin O'Connor announced the move Wednesday while the Jazz were practicing at the team workout facility. "We like his experience," O'Connor said. "We like the fact that he can play a couple different positions." Salt Lake Tribune |
