For a second time, Phil Jackson met with a former Laker at halftime during a game as Knicks president. This time, it was a sit-down with Lamar Odom during Wednesday’s Knicks-Nets game. The troubled Odom, 34, is sitting out this season after being arrested over the summer on a DUI charge and spending some time in drug and alcohol rehabilitation. He played last season with the Clippers and met with them in November but never signed. He played five seasons for Jackson with the Lakers, winning two titles. The Queens product also was the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year in 2011. New York Post

As it was expected the return of Lamar Odom to the States proved to be also the end of his short European career. His club, Laboral Kutxa, announced that his contract is terminated because he will not be ready to return to action at least for a two month period due to his back problems. The idea of a new career in the old continent might seemed like a possibility for Odom when he crossed the pond, however he was used in total just in two games by his team and only for six minutes in the top European competition, Euroleague. As he said via the press release of the Spanish club: “The voyage has not ended, but I have to be responsible towards the club. I am injured and I will need two months in the States for rehab. I am satisfied with the club and the city and everything happens for a reason. I think there is a home for me in Vitoria”. EuroHoops.net

Because Odom only signed a two-month contract with Laboral Kutxa Baskonia, sources said, it is still being determined whether he will return to the club before the end of the Spanish season. After a long layoff, Odom signed the two-month deal with Baskonia on Feb. 18. But he played in only two games for the Vitoria-based club that has sent the likes of Goran Dragic, Luis Scola, Tiago Splitter and Jose Calderon to the NBA, logging just 23 minutes in those appearances. The two-month contract does include an option for Baskonia to extend the contract through he rest of the Spanish season, which has another two months to run. Such deals typically contain out clauses that allow established veterans such as Odom to return to the NBA if the opportunity arises, but ESPN.com reported last month that Odom's plan was to play out the rest of the 2013-14 campaign in Europe before determining whether to make an NBA comeback. Lamar Odom is seeking a second basketball chance in Spain and despite being 34 years old, he just wants to play again. On Friday he was presented to the Spanish media and he was quite frank about his motivation to leave behind him the States and play basketball in Europe. As he said: “I talked to my agent and he told me about Laboral Kutxa’s offer. I called Pau Gasol, who spoke highly of coach Scariolo. I quickly accepted the offer, it only took me three days. They have also told me that Vitoria is a city with great love for basketball. I understand that not everything revolves around me, I do not mind the difference between European and NBA basketball. The important thing is to be a humble person”. EuroHoops.net
