HoopsHype Lamar Odom rumors

Odom visited Clippers officials in mid-November to discuss a possible return. The Clippers are continuing to monitor Odom's progress with an eye toward reuniting with the troubled swingman after a mediocre season as a role player last year. Odom, the No. 4 pick in the 1999 draft and a staple of the Lakers' back-to-back championships in 2009 and '10, hasn't been a consistent threat on the floor since the Lakers traded him to the Mavericks in December 2011. Christmas, according to one insider, is a more realistic target. The Clippers will undeniably miss Redick for the next six to eight weeks with the eight-year veteran playing the best all-around ball of his career. Don't forget that Matt Barnes has already missed a slew of games before Redick went down. ESPN.com

Rivers, the coach and head of basketball operations, was impressed by Odom’s attitude and condition – “He was actually in pretty good shape, and that surprised me” – when they met Nov. 15 at Clippers headquarters. No further visits are planned, Rivers said, but he has moved the process forward by talking with Phil Jackson, Odom’s former coach with the Lakers, and Vinny Del Negro, Odom’s coach last season with the Clippers before Odom became a free agent. “I’m hoping if things work out, yeah,” Rivers said Friday at Sleep Train Arena, where the Clippers beat the Kings 104-98. “But I just don’t know. I know there’s other teams involved, I think. I honestly haven’t focused on it a lot. But he’s somebody that I’ve always liked, and I like him more now after hearing from Phil Jackson to Vinny to all the players the type of guy he is in the locker room. When I hear that stuff, without saying exactly what I heard, you want him in your locker room.” NBA.com

"Everyone who was here (with the Clippers last season) has always told me (that) Lamar was a good guy, a great locker room guy – funny, never complained – even with the struggles," Dudley, who came to the Clippers via trade during the summer, told USA TODAY Sports before their loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night. "His struggle was getting in shape and getting motivated. I think that once he got in the season, he was motivated, they said. The only thing I've heard is he's a good guy. That's the honest truth. It seemed like, when he came into the locker room (during a visit at the team's facility on Friday), when he was high-fiving every guy, like he was a good personality." USA Today Sports

As for whether Dudley foresees Odom joining the Clippers, he told USA TODAY Sports, "Oh, 100%." Clippers coach Doc Rivers wasn't willing to confirm nor deny such a sentiment, but he did acknowledge that his two-hour meeting with Odom was a positive step forward in their potential relationship. The first-year Clippers coach had no prior relationship with Odom, so he brought him in to get his own sense of his well-being and discuss how this pairing might work after Odom's tumultuous summer. Clippers coach Doc Rivers confirmed the team met with free-agent forward Lamar Odom on Friday. Rivers described the meeting as "a good conversation," but added, "it didn't go much further than that." One source connected to the talks told ESPN.com's Marc Stein on Friday night that both sides have serious interest in making the reunion official after Odom played for the Clippers last season. Clippers Coach Doc Rivers said the meeting he had with free agent Lamar Odom at the team's practice facility Friday went well and that the organization is interested in the forward. No deal was imminent between the Clippers and Odom, but the team will continue to monitor things. "I've always had interest in him," Rivers said Saturday. "I've always liked him. The teams he has played on, the coaches who have coached him have always liked him… I hadn't seen him. I just wanted to see him." Los Angeles Times
