Blazers president Larry Miller on Neil Olshey hiring: "We spent a lot of time making sure we found the right person. I'm excited we've been able to do that with Neil Olshey. Neil comes to us with the Los Angeles Clippers where he's had the opportunity to build an incredible team down there.... Probably no one is more excited than I am. I've been tired of going through this process and getting hit with questions." Sulia

David Morway, the general manager of the Indiana Pacers, is believed by many to be the favored candidate of Blazers president Larry Miller. Meanwhile, if you believe insiders, Allen confidante Bert Kolde is pushing for Los Angeles Clippers general manager Neil Olshey. Trouble is, Olshey is a client of agent Warren LeGarie. Remember, LeGarie also represented former Blazers GMs John Nash and Kevin Pritchard as well as ex-assistant general manager Tom Penn. You'd think Allen wouldn't want to eat at that restaurant again. Also involved is former New Orleans general manager Jeff Bower. And I was told by someone close to the search that Allen had taken a sudden interest in Philadelphia 76ers senior vice president Tony DiLeo. Perhaps because Allen likes DiLeo, but maybe, too, because nobody in his inner circle seems to agree on the other candidates. Oregonian

The Trail Blazers have narrowed their search for a general manager to three finalists and expect to hire a candidate “soon,” team president Larry Miller said on Tuesday. The finalists are believed to be former New Orleans general manager Jeff Bower; Indiana general manager David Morway and Los Angeles Clippers general manager Neil Olshey. Agent Steve Kauffman confirmed Allen interviewed Bower and Morway early this month, and Ken Berger of CBSsports.com reported that Olshey interviewed with Allen recently in London. “We’ve had three people in front of Paul, and now we are down to the vetting process and checking backgrounds,’’ Miller said on Tuesday. “We’ve done a lot of that already, so we should be able to move fairly quickly. We will talk through the decision and talk details ... it could happen pretty soon.’’ Oregonian

Larry Miller said Tuesday the Trail Blazers have narrowed the list of candidates for their vacant general manager position to three, “and we are pretty close to making a decision.” “We are in the final vetting stages of seeing whether we can make a hire,” said Portland’s team president, who refused to lay a time line for the decision. The Portland Trail Blazers have met with three candidates for their vacant general manger position and Trail Blazers' president Larry Miller says it's decision-making time. “We have to make a decision now,” Miller said. “We've had three candidates, total, meet with Paul (Allen) and hopefully we'll have a GM in place pretty soon.” CSNNW.com

“There was a lot of interest for this position and the process was so long because we had to wait for certain teams to finish out their season,” Miller said. “We're confident that we'll bring in the right guy and we're happy with who we've interviewed.” CSNNW.com

Blazers president Larry Miller on Nicolas Batum's contract extension talks: "[Restricted free agency] will help determine the market value for us. The good thing is that we have the option to match any offer made to Nic. That will kind of help us determine his market value. It's tough. Agents and players have one perspective, teams have another perspective. Generally you can come to a point of agreement and I think we'll be able to do that in this case." Quote via: 750 AM Sulia

The Blazers have identified two or three more candidates they hope to interview for the GM position. “We’ve had a couple of candidates in front of Paul, and the goal is to get a couple of more in front of him in the near future — hopefully in the next couple of weeks,” Miller says. “At that point, there’s a pretty good chance we will be ready to have someone named.” Portland Tribune
