What have your conversations with Larry Sanders been like this summer? Jason Kidd: We've been great. He came out to summer league for a couple days to work out. We've talked all summer. I'm very excited. He has said on multiple occasions he's excited to play basketball. We understand how important he is to this team, and so, again, what he brings to the table on the defensive and offensive end, we're very excited to have. He's said he wants to have a bounceback season. How's he looking, what are your expectations for him? Jason Kidd: He looks great. He looks great. He's running. He's blocking shots, rebounding, he's talking, he's helping his teammates out on both ends. He's in shape. He looks great. Everybody that we've seen, the 15 guys that have been here most of September look great. CBSSports.com

Last February the Bucks’ Larry Sanders took an inadvertent James Harden elbow to the face and was out for the season. (Well, until he got a five-game suspension for testing positive for marijuana use, then suddenly he was well enough to play the last five games of the season so he could work off the suspension.) After that, Sanders is coming back this season wearing goggles, he tweeted out. NBCSports.com

Is Larry Sanders in the team's future plans? David Morway: Absolutely. Yeah, yeah. Larry is in our future plans. We are hopeful that this year Larry gets back to being the basketball player that he was two years ago. He is a defensive presence and a game changer on the court. So when you have his length along with Giannis, Jabari Parker, John Henson and then Zaza Pachulia, Damien Inglis, who is very long, and if you play Khris Middleton at the two... We are a fairly long team. We've got good experience with OJ Mayo, Jerryd Bayless... And we like Kendall Marshall. So we are excited for next year. HoopsHype

Q.What about Larry Sanders, and can he bounce back after his disastrous 2013-'14 season? And can he control his emotions on the floor? Jason Kidd. Yeah. I think it starts with being healthy. Two, he's here working out. When you look at that and being gone for five months, he's here with his teammates. That's the start. He's been great. He's talking. He wants to be a leader. He cares. He's talking to the young guys at practice, taking them to dinner (Friday). That shows his leadership. Tyson (Chandler) off the floor is great but when he gets on the floor he gets into his warrior mentality. Sometimes you play with that spirit and it's all being able to control it, making sure mentally you don't get taken out of the game. There's always going to be a call you feel you didn't get. But just stay in the moment, and hopefully that's what I can get across. Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

One of the final straws for Nets ownership came around the trade deadline. Kidd advocated for a trade with the Bucks that would sent Brook Lopez and Mirza Teletovic to Milwaukee for the deeply troubled Larry Sanders and Ersan Ilyasova. The suggestion, mostly about Kidd's belief that Lopez couldn't fit in his system, was considered and rejected by the Nets brass. NetsDaily
