As one of the elder statesmen on this Kings Summer League squad, Jackson is taking it upon himself to hold his younger teammates accountable. He plans on reminding them that the next week is about business if they hope to make their hoop dreams come true. “Everybody’s out auditioning,” said the 26-year-old power forward. “You’re auditioning not just for the Kings, you’re auditioning for every team in the NBA. So you have to be respectful, on the court and off the court. Just be professional whatever you’re doing.” Taking on that leadership role means probably becoming the resident killjoy. But Jackson seems to not mind and is willing to nag teammates when necessary. “At the end of the day, everybody’s a human being (and) everybody makes mistakes,” Jackson said. “You’ve just got to tell them. Some guys are stubborn, some guys listen.” Cowbell Kingdom |

PBT will have you covered. I will be there for the opening half (I’m in Vegas before for part of USA Basketball training camp for the Olympics just before) and Scott Schroeder will be there for almost every minute of the action. If you can’t get out to melt in the desert in the middle of July, NBA TV will show all 60 games (39 live) and some other networks will carry specific teams (MSG will have some Knicks games, for example). Below is the schedule, so you know when to set your DVR (the first Anthony Davis/Hornets game is Sunday night). The games are spread out across adjoining buildings (COX Pavilion and the Thomas & Mack) and run simultaneously at points. NBCSports.com The New Orleans Hornets will conduct a mini-camp for their Las Vegas summer league team on July 11-13 at the Alario Center. The workouts will include draft picks Austin Rivers (10th overall) and Darius Miller (46th overall), along with four players from the 2011-12 Hornets end-of-season roster (Al-Farouq Aminu, Jerome Dyson, Xavier Henry, and Darryl Watkins) are scheduled to participate. Continuing in the city’s tradition of one-off sporting events — such as boxing title fights or the NBA All-Star Weekend in 2007 — and a knack for marketing, a one-night only preseason game between the Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets will be Oct. 6 at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, the Clippers announced Monday. It will open the NBA’s preseason and will be the first regular or preseason game on the Strip for the league. The game will be played at the casino’s events center, which seats 12,000. Dime |

![]() The final details have not been worked out, but when the list of teams is released for the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas this summer, expect the Wizards to be on it, according to two league sources with knowledge of the situation. The event will be held from July 13 to 22 at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion on the UNLV campus. The Wizards were among the participants in the inaugural Las Vegas summer league in 2004 and made the trip every year until the NBA canceled the summer league last year because of the lockout. The NBA summer league usually is reserved for draft choices, young veterans working on their game or older players trying to return to the NBA. So perhaps Travis Outlaw is on to something by telling coach Keith Smart he might join the Kings in Las Vegas in July. Outlaw would love to return to his old form after a disappointing 2011-12 season. The forward has been a nonfactor with the Kings for most of the season, appearing in only 37 games. A positive attitude and a good summer league showing couldn't hurt. "Depending on if I'm still in Sac, I may look into (summer league)," Outlaw said. Sacramento Bee |

![]() Mayor Kevin Johnson flew to Las Vegas today, in an apparent attempt to revive talks with the Sacramento Kings' ownership on a downtown arena. After a week of trading accusations about the collapse of the arena project, the mayor arrived at the Palms Casino, whose chairman is Kings co-owner George Maloof. A Maloof spokesman confirmed the meeting. Eric Rose said the mayor showed up this afternoon unannounced at the Palms Hotel. "George graciously accepted his meeting," Rose said. "They are meeting right now." Sacramento Bee Maloof and the mayor traded text messages the past two days about holding a meeting but couldn't coordinate their schedules. So, the source said, Johnson arrived at the Palms unannounced and was ushered into Maloof's office. Sacramento Bee |

Nearing the end of his third NBA season, Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews said he plans on playing for the Blazers in the Las Vegas Summer League, a rare commitment for such an accomplished player. “I’m playing. I’m playing. Dead serious,’’ Matthews said after Wednesday’s home finale, a 112-91 loss to Utah. Oregonian The Detroit Pistons plan to participate in the Orlando Magic Summer League this year, vice president of basketball operations Scott Perry said before tonight's game against the Atlanta Hawks. The July 9-13 event typically features prospects from about eight NBA teams. Most teams play in the Las Vegas Summer League, which was announced last week for July 13-21, and the Pistons traditionally have gone there. Booth Newspapers |

Casey sees an opportunity for him to make bigger strides this summer. He says he is going to insist Davis not only play on the Raptors summer league team in Las Vegas but expects he will be the focal point of it with Valanciunas likely tied up with his national team duties for Lithuania. “This summer is doing to be big for him,” Casey said. “He has to get his body where it’s stronger, physically mature because a lot of his (trouble) right now is strength-based and getting knocked off his mark. If he can get a good base and get his strength, he can make a move. The problem he has right now is when he goes up against a strong guy like a (Kevin) Garnett who knows how to push and shove and get him off his leverage point. That’s where he has to learn, and the only way to learn that is to get strong enough so you can take those blows and still make your move.” Toronto Sun |

Andrew Goudelock and Darius Morris didn't get a chance to participate in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas last year because it was canceled in the wake of the lockout, but the rookie guards could be headed there when it resumes July 13-22. "We haven't really thought of summer league yet," Brown said. "Naturally, Goudelock and Morris (would be candidates). I don't know about anybody else. Obviously, for the two rookies, it would be great for them." Los Angeles Daily News |

Jerry Zgoda: Asked both DWilliams and Wes if they'll play in Vegas Summer League now that it's back this July. Both were quite non-committal about it Twitter The NBA announced the Las Vegas Summer League would be held July 13-22 after it was canceled last summer because of the lockout. Asked which of his players he wanted to see in Las Vegas, Smart joked, "All of them are going except for (veterans) John (Salmons), Chuck (Hayes) and Francisco Garcia." Smart said he wants to see all his players continue their development over the summer and is encouraging them to bond with the newcomers from June's draft. Sacramento Bee |
