Of course you know there’d be a couple of guys who’d slip my mind when I was talking about the mid-level exception and the guy I was told the Raptors are thinking about making an offer to. Now, I again caution nothing is done until it’s done and these are talks that are progressing. But a couple of guys sidled up to me Monday, and, even though I like sidlers about as much as Elaine Benes, I had to listen. And they dropped three more on me: Travis Outlaw, Linas Kleiza and Josh Childress. Nothing more than names to put on the list because no one connected with the Raptors is about to divulge anything specific at the moment. Toronto Star

Rumors began to circulate last week that Childress was headed to Washington, which made little sense because he is presently the property of the Hawks, who made a qualifying offer to make him a restricted free agent. That was shot down by two league sources. One said the report was "completely erroneous." I spoke to someone who talked to Childress last week and they told me that Childress didn't know anything about it. I can tell you that the Wizards' interest in Childress in genuine. He was among the players the Wizards considered taking in 2004 before dealing the fifth pick to Dallas in a trade for Antawn Jamison. President Ernie Grunfeld was in Paris for the EuroLeague Final Four and watch Childress and former All-Met player Linas Kleiza lose to Ricky Rubio and Juan Carlos Navarro of Barcelona in the championship game. Once source said the presence of Grunfeld led to speculation that simply spun out of control. Washington Post

Linas Kleiza arrived in the United States to wait for news about his future just before the start of the NBA free agency. Despite numerous Greek media reports about the Lithuanian player staying in Olympiacos Piraeus, there is a possibility that he will be returning to play basketball in NBA. “It’s split at 50-50 on whether I’ll play in Greece or return to NBA,” Kleiza told the Lietuvos Rytas daily. lithuaniabasketball.com

The Denver Nuggets need help on the front line, and Linas Kleiza hasn't ruled out being an option. The 6-foot-8 forward played with the Nuggets from 2005-09 before becoming a restricted free agent last summer. He bolted to Greece to sign a two-year, $12 million deal with Olympiakos, but he remains a Denver restricted free agent. Kleiza could opt out of his contract by July 15 and return to the NBA for next season. He said in a telephone interview Tuesday with FanHouse that he hasn't ruled that out. "I still like it in Greece, but I have until July 15 to come back to the NBA,'' Kleiza said. "If a good situation comes along (it would be considered).'' FanHouse.com
