Lucas Nogueira, C, Brazil: One West executive identified the 20-year-old as a sleeper. The 6-11 Nogueira dazzled NBA talent evaluators at the Under-18 World Championships in 2011, with a West general manager referring to him as the "best player on the floor." He played for Estudiantes Madrid in the well-regarded Spanish ACB League in 2012-13. Scouts praise Nogueira's intelligence and ability to fit into any system, while listing his shot blocking and rebounding as his top skills. The West executive said that if Nogueira had played in college last season and gotten more exposure, he would be a lottery pick. SI.com

While Nogueira is one of the best per-minute offensive rebounders in the ACB, he's just an average defensive rebounder (5.1 per-40), not always boxing out his man and showing average instincts going out of his area to come up with loose balls. This is somewhat inevitable considering how often he's chasing blocks, but it's something he'll need to improve on balancing to reach his full potential down the road. To his credit, Bebe made significant and very noticeable strides in virtually every area as the season moved on, improving week by week seemingly, even if he wasn't always rewarded for it with additional playing time. His feel for the game has undoubtedly improved, as has his focus-level, effort, and commitment to playing solid basketball on every possession. There is clearly a great deal of physical potential and talent to work with here, and he's definitely still getting better at this stage. DraftExpress.com

In the same vein, Lucas “Bebe” Nogueira sat out today's game action, due to a minor injury that he wanted to make sure heals before joining the Brazilian national team. Most NBA teams in the gym are assuming that Nogueira has decided to withdraw from the draft, although a member of his agency, Aylton Tesch, told us on the morning of the 13th that “no final decision has been made.” DraftExpress.com

Most clubs feel that would be the right move – “I don’t know why they put him in the draft in the first place,” one scout said. Even if Nogueira stays in and gets the guaranteed money of a first-round pick, a possibility for a team picking near the end but wanting to avoid taking on a contract now, it is a near-certainty that he plays overseas at least one more season and possibly two.
