Amundson had been playing little with the Timberwolves, and said that before he was waived he had looked into whether a trade could be worked out. He said a possible deal that included Amundson going to Philadelphia with point guard Luke Ridnour for center Spencer Hawes was nixed by the Timberwolves due to concerns about that leaving them too thin at point guard as Ricky Rubio works his way back to full strength following knee surgery. Phoenix has had talks with Atlanta about Smith, who will become an unrestricted free agent this summer. However, the Suns have been engaged in discussions about their own role players in Sebasitan Telfair and Jermaine O'Neal. Toronto, looking for a backup point guard, has interest in Telfair, as well as Minnesota's Luke Ridnour and Oklahoma City's Eric Maynor. New York has strong interest in O'Neal. ESPN.com ![]() The Wolves are not shopping PG Luke Ridnour, according to a source. The Timberwolves are 2-6 in February, but PG Ricky Rubio is averaging 13.5 points and 9.3 assists during the month. Yahoo! Sports Veterans who remain available in trade talks this week include San Antonio's DeJuan Blair, Cleveland's Omri Casspi, Charlotte's Ben Gordon, Brooklyn's Kris Humphries, Oklahoma City's Eric Maynor, Minnesota's Luke Ridnour, Phoenix's Sebastian Telfair and Washington's Jordan Crawford. ![]() Five years ago, in Luke Ridnour's final season in Seattle, he played with future hall of famer Kevin Durant. While a reunion with Durant is unlikely, Ridnour could soon call another expected hall of famer a teammate: New York Knick Carmelo Anthony. The Knicks are one of several teams with interest in the Minnesota Timberwolves guard, according to a league source. 1500 ESPN Wherever it is, a source close to Ridnour said he's mentally preparing for a trade by Thursday afternoon's deadline. 1500 ESPN |

Long-time NBA reporter Chris Sheridan is reporting the Wolves are expected to move guard Luke Ridnour. Utah likes Ridnour, according to a source. But a separate source said the Jazz are not willing to deal guards Alec Burks and Raja Bell for Ridnour. In fact, Burks is off-limits in the discussions involving Ridnour. The most logical scenario involves Utah sacrificing the worse of its two first-round picks in the June draft -- the Jazz also owns Golden State's selection -- and Bell for Ridnour. Bell has an expiring contract. The Wolves don't appear to be involved in any blockbuster trade talks. 1500 ESPN |

Darren Wolfson: Re: Sheridan's Ridnour report - told Utah has given some sort of assurance to A. Burks that he's not going anywhere, at least not for Luke. Twitter @DarrenWolfson ![]() Luke Ridnour is being shopped by the Minnesota Timberwolves, and a league source told SheridanHoops.com “there is a good chance” the 10th-year point guard will be dealt before the Feb. 21 trade deadline. With Ricky Rubio back from an injury that wiped out the first half of his season, the T-Wolves have a glut at the position with J.J. Berea also under contract (for this season plus two more). Ridnour has a reasonable contract ($4 million this season, $4.3 million next season) and is a steady playmaker who has spent the majority of his career with bad teams, having appeared in the playoffs just twice. Other names that dribbled out this week as likely candidates to be dealt this trade season include Milwaukee's expiring-contract backcourt duo of Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings, based on the premise that the Bucks, if they start drifting out of playoff contention, won't want to risk losing their smallish scorers for nothing in free agency. Also mentioned frequently is the Minnesota trio of Derrick Williams, Luke Ridnour and J.J. Barea, given that Wolves coach Rick Adelman appears to have no use for Williams and with the Wolves now boasting a surplus of point guards with Ricky Rubio poised to return from his knee tear. More than 280 people nationwide have contracted fungal meningitis from contaminated steroid injections, and 23 people have died. Ridnour said he did his homework before getting his injection. "I made sure," he said. "I checked it like three times, though." Ridnour has missed three of five preseason games because of pain being caused by that herniated disc. "I feel good about where I'm at with it, just getting it calmed down," he said. "I feel really good now, be pain free and ready to go. I feel a lot better, just making sure I'm ready to go for November." Minneapolis Star-Tribune |

![]() In addition to Kevin Love sitting out the final two games of the season, Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman said point guard Luke Ridnour also will not return. Ridnour has been out with a sprained right ankle since the Wolves' April 2 game at Sacramento. "I think he's done for the season," Adelman said before the Sunday night, April 22, game against Golden State at Target Center. "I would be surprised if he played again. He really struggled moving around in practice (Saturday). After watching him yesterday, I don't see any reason to put him out there." St. Paul Pioneer Press |
