While terms of the deal were not announced, Wayns’ agent, Andy Miller, confirmed that Wayns had indeed signed the contract on Monday morning. Philadelphia Inquirer Maalik Wayns left Villanova a year early to pursue his dream of playing in the NBA. It appears that dream will come true, in his hometown no less. Maalik Wayns is well aware of the various projections. For what they’re worth, most NBA mock drafts have the former Villanova point guard going somewhere in the bottom half of the second round on June 28. If they have him getting taken at all. He doesn’t care. Nor should he. Because it only takes one team. And then it’s going to be up to him to make something happen. "I look at a couple of people they have [rated] in front of me, and I feel as though I’m as good or better than them," said the Roman Catholic product, who left college a year early to pursue his lifelong dream. "I use that as motivation. I can only control what I can control. There’s 30 teams. It’s all about getting that one to fall in love with you." Philadelphia Inquirer |

Coming off a tough season in which it missed the NCAA tournament for the first time in eight years, having its top two scorers leave was the last thing Villanova needed. Maalik Wayns made his NBA intentions known last month, and now it seems Dominic Cheek will follow to the draft. “I appreciate all the help I have gotten from my teammates, coaches and friends during my time at Villanova,” Cheek said in a release. “At this point in my life, I feel this is the best decision for me and my family. I am excited to get started with the process of pursuing my dream of playing in the NBA.” CBSSports.com |

Maalik Wayns, as most figured all along, has made it official. The junior lead guard from Roman Catholic High will not be coming back for his final season of eligibility. Instead, he will keep his name in the NBA draft. "We've been hearing all the rumors, so there was no reason to wait any longer," said Wayns, a second-team All-Big East selection and the leading scorer (averaging more than 17 points a game) on a team that finished 13-19. "The best thing was to get it out. "It's kind of a relief. Now it's just all about work, trying to make my lifelong dream a reality. No more wavering back and forth." Philadelphia Inquirer |

No more wavering back and forth.” Philadelphia Inquirer Wayns had put his name into the pool of candidates on March 14, a week after the Wildcats were eliminated in the second round of their conference tournament. By rule he had until April 10 to change his mind. But the choice had pretty much been made. “We support Maalik’s decision and will continue to support him throughout the process,” coach Jay Wright said in a statement. Philadelphia Inquirer |

The point guard torch has officially been passed from Maalik Wayns to Tyrone Johnson. Sources have confirmed that Wayns has signed with an agent and will not return for his senior season at Villanova. That agent reportedly is Andy Miller, the same man who represents former Villanova standout Kyle Lowry, the last Villanova player to leave early for the draft. The Mercury Jeff Goodman: Villanova fans probably already know this, but Maalik Wayns is done at 'Nova. Has - or will sign - w/ Andy Miller, source told CBSSports. Twitter |

Wayns may go early to the NBA. Sources tell me it could happen. Twitter We've heard the rumors that Maalik Wayns was thinking about leaving early to the NBA as well. Frankly, it didn't really concern me, because he didn't have a great year. If he was a 1st round pick before the season, and that's a big if, then he certainly cannot be considered one now after the second half of the season that he and Villanova had. The Nova Blog |
