Malcolm Lee was recalled by the Wolves this morning from the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA Development League. Lee averaged 9.7 points and six assists in three games for the Skyforce. The 6-5 rookie guard from UCLA was the Bulls' second-round pick last summer and came to Minnesota in a draft-day trade. He had a torn meniscus in his left knee repaired shortly after training camp opened and was basically rehabbing in the D-League. Minneapolis Star-Tribune |

Wolves rookie guard Malcolm Lee underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus ligament in his left knee Friday and could miss as much as six weeks. His knee grew sore as training camp progressed. He has surgery to repair the meniscus on the same knee after the college season last March, but this surgery is not related to that one, the team said. "It's unfortunate for him, but better to get it fixed than wait," coach Rick Adelman said. "He had played very well. We were very pleased with him. We would not have hesitated to play him." Timberwolves rookie guard Malcolm Lee underwent surgery today to repair a torn meniscus ligament in his left knee. The team says recovery time for such a surgery usually is about six weeks, although it often estimates on the conservative side. The Wolves signed Lee -- a second-round pick from UCLA -- to a guaranteed three-year contract earlier this month. That's fairly rare to guarantee all three years for a second-round pick, but the Wolves are high on a combo guard from a school that's produced a slew of NBA-ready guards in recent years. No guaranteed contract. No guaranteed NBA season. Malcolm Lee could easily wallow in self-pity after being selected in the second round of the NBA draft at a time when there are no assurances there will be an NBA season. Leave it to a lockdown defender to keep out all depressing thoughts. "Right now I'm trying to turn a negative situation into a positive," the former UCLA shooting guard said Saturday afternoon while standing in a doorway at Las Vegas Rancho High, where top prospect Shabazz Muhammad, whom the Bruins are recruiting, was playing in a club tournament game. "I'm trying to work on my game, tweaking it up," Lee said. Los Angeles Times Exactly a month after he was drafted lower than he would have liked, Lee said he still had no regrets about his decision to enter the draft and forgo his senior season. "I still stand by my decision," Lee said. "I still feel like it's the right move. Right now I've got one foot in the door and I'm going to go from there." Los Angeles Times |

If one word has filtered through the approach to this year's draft for the Nets, it's "athlete." When you have a point guard like Deron Williams running the show, you want to surround him with as many athletes as possible. So the Nets, who pick 27th and 36th, brought in six athletic types yesterday -- two guards and four power forwards -- for the first group of draft workouts. And among the pack were two players, UCLA combo guard Malcolm Lee and Wisconsin shooting power forward Jon Leuer, who have shown up either directly on in close proximity to the Nets in several of the mock drafts. Plus, it doesn't hurt that those two have experience -- Leuer is a four-year guy while Lee played for three. "Lee is quick. Very, very quick and in their system, the way Ben [Howland] coaches, usually they're a very controlled halfcourt offense so you see some explosive quickness," said Nets general manager Billy King, not the only one with that assessment of the 6-foot-5 guard who shot .441 for his Bruins career. The Pistons held their first big workout of the year on Wednesday. Cleveland State's Norris Cole, Malcolm Lee, Andrew Goudelock, Cory Joseph, Kalin Lucas and Andrew Albicy all participated. Keep an eye out for Cole. He's been really rising on a number of draft boards. Not only has he tested out as one of the best athletes in the draft, but he really looked like he belonged out there with the other, more highly-rated point guards in the draft. When you look at his body of work in college over the past couple of years, there's a lot to be impressed with. He could be a sleeper first-round selection. ESPN.com |

A couple of players really helped themselves in the group workout which featured more one-on-one and three-on-three type drills than were done in Chicago. So for some it was a chance to add to a resume that started in the gym last week. Malcolm Lee, a player we have been very high on here at HOOPSWORLD, proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is a legit point guard. He also shot the ball extremely well according to a couple of observers. This is the second group setting in which Lee showcased an improved shooting form, and executives have taken notice. Lee's dance card is really filling up, with sources close to the player saying he may have more workout requests than he can fit in in the next 29 days. HoopsWorld Alex Kennedy: A well-placed source who attended the Minnesota group workout said that Josh Selby and Malcolm Lee stole the show. Twitter |

The Minnesota workout won't be the only important draft workout this week. On Wednesday, the Detroit Pistons will host UCLA' Malcolm Lee and Charleston's Andrew Goudelock. On Thursday, the Houston Rockets will host Kansas's Marcus Morris. On Friday, the Miami Heat will host UCLA's Malcolm Lee. The Hoops Report |
