When asked about the possibility of being teammates with his older brother, Marcus Landry doesn't speak like a long shot to make the Kings' roster. "It's going to be great," Marcus said of playing with his brother, Kings forward Carl Landry. Marcus' confidence isn't without merit. Four days into training camp, Marcus has been a standout, according to head coach Paul Westphal. Big brother agrees. "He is playing out of his mind," Carl said. "I'm not just saying this because he's my brother, but he's one of the best guys in camp right now. He's outplaying me, and that's saying a lot. I've always beat up on little brother growing up because I was the big brother." Sacramento Bee Carl noticed Marcus' confidence growing in the offseason. He's confident Marcus will help a team this season. "If he's not here, I know he'll be somewhere because he's playing great basketball," Carl said. "Even if he goes to the D-League or if somebody else picks him up, he's going to be a great bonus to somebody's ballclub." Carl can relate to Marcus working against the odds by recalling that there were 19 guaranteed contracts in Houston when he was a second round pick in 2007. Landry still made the team. "Ever since I've been little, I've been trying to do everything better than (Carl)," Marcus said. "He's at a level now (that) I'm trying to get to and be better than that. He's just been a great example to me. There's no other person I can look up to right now but him. He's never been in trouble. He doesn't have a bad reputation at all. So just to follow in someone's footsteps, he's a great person's to follow in." Sacramento Bee |
