Nick Nurse and the Iowa Energy won the 2011 NBA D-League championship over the Rio Grande Valley Vipers with a 119-111 victory on Friday night to win Game 3 of the three-game series. The Energy outscored the Vipers 38-23 in the fourth quarter to claim the first championship in team history behind 31 points from guard Stefhon Hannah following D-League MVP Curtis Stinson's first half injury. The Energy were also missing Othyus Jeffers, Marqus Blakely, Chris Lofton and Courtney Sims, all of which were missing either due to NBA call-ups or overseas opportunities that offered higher salaries. Houston Chronicle Marqus Blakely has been on the NBA radar ever since being released by the Los Angeles Clippers in the preseason, but it wasn't until today when he signed with the Houston Rockets that he given a second NBA opportunity. Blakely, a 6-foot-5 rookie forward out of Vermont, will join the Rockets in Minnesota after playing all season in the NBA D-League split between the Bakersfield Jam and Iowa Energy. In 49 regular season D-League games (19 starts), Blakely averaged 15.0 points and 6.3 rebounds while making 63 percent of his free-throw attempts. Ridiculous Upside |

Rod Benson: I’m having a great season right now. Seriously, I’m doing things athletically that I’ve never done before. But why wasn’t this the case before? Because I spent my time blaming other things for my misfortune instead of doing what I’m doing now. Now I’m staying in instead of going out. I’m watching film. I’m lifting weights aggressively. I lost a little weight, even though I’m skinny, but now I don’t have to wear knee braces at all anymore, instead of the two I wore this summer that had Marqus Blakely say to me, “So your knees are just done? Already?” HoopsHype |

![]() The Los Angeles Clippers are going to keep center Jarron Collins on their opening night roster but cut forward Marqus Blakely, a source close to the situation said on Monday. Collins, the former Harvard-Westlake [Studio City] and Stanford star was considered a long shot to make the team coming into training camp because he was on an unguaranteed contract. But the nine-year veteran impressed the Clippers staff with his ability and leadership qualities enough to earn a job at a position where the team lacked depth. Marqus Blakely’s agent, Sam Porter, confirmed in a phone interview this afternoon that Blakely has signed a two-year contract to play for the Los Angeles Clippers and elaborated on the deal. With only a portion of the former University of Vermont standout’s contract guaranteed, Porter said Blakely will only get the full amount if he makes the team after the Clippers hold preseason camp this fall. Porter declined to specify how much guaranteed money Blakely will receive. “It was enough that it was worth us passing up six-figure offers from teams in Europe,” Porter said. Burlington Free Press As reported by DraftExpress, Marqus Blakely is is signing a two year partially guaranteed contract with the Los Angeles Clippers. In his senior year with Vermont Catamounts, the forward averaged 17.3ppg and 9.3rpg. Sportando I have to assume his "partially guaranteed" contract is not much more than a training camp invite with a bit of additional cash added, but if Blakely's able to develop - put the ball on the floor and become more comfortable on the arc - this will be a medium-reward, low-risk signing for the Clippers.
