HoopsHype Marreese Speights rumors

Marreese Speights is eager to face old friends when the Warriors begin the Western Conference semifinals against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday. "There's always love playing against Memphis," said Speights, who played with the Grizzlies as recently as two seasons ago. Speights, who averaged 8.8 points and a career-best 6.2 rebounds and started 54 games for the Grizzlies in 2011-12, said he remains friends with his former teammates. "I still talk to all of them," he said. But his excitement about this series isn't so much about old times. "It's fun because I know I might get the chance to play a lot," he said. It was not the first time the Warriors, featuring the NBA’s premier defense and best record, had suffocated an offense with such mercilessness. It wasn’t even the first time in the past month; the Toronto Raptors, another plunging Eastern Conference club, shot 1 of 19 from the field in the first quarter of their 113-89 debacle in Canada on Feb. 27. But there was a difference: According to Warriors backup center Marreese Speights, Golden State suspected the Wizards would fold. “We just turned [it] up a little,” Speights said. “We knew if we hit them, if we got a couple stops, they would start arguing with each other and quit. We went out there with a good mind-set in the second half and we did it.” Washington Post

The reinvigorated Warriors bench combined for 62 points and was led by Justin Holiday's career-high 18 points. Iguodala and Marreese Speights added 12 points apiece as the Warriors led by as many as 25 points in the game. "It's a problem to deal with on the defensive end for the other team," Curry said. "You're going to have to be aware of 12 different guys that can come out there and play against you and even beat you." Oakland Tribune
