According to multiple sources, Brooks had communicated to the Nets that he wanted to be dealt. Brooks didn’t go that far while opening up in an interview with the Daily News on Tuesday, but he outlined some of his frustrations under Avery Johnson and PJ Carlesimo. “I wasn’t really sure with (Jason Kidd becoming coach). I didn’t know what to expect. Last year obviously we knew what was going on, it was so rocky, I didn’t know if I was playing. There just wasn’t any structure to any of my minutes,” Brooks said. “So it was kind of hard for me to perform under those circumstances and obviously I didn’t want to be in that situation next year.” New York Daily News

Brooks healed but remained on the bench. While Jerry Stackhouse was getting the minutes, Avery Johnson was discussing Brooks’ defensive deficiencies on the team’s reality show, “The Association.” “That’ll be one thing if he was pulling me in my office and saying that. But he was clearly – I guess he wanted everybody to know. Because everybody was like, why isn’t this guy playing?” Brooks said. “He never really pulled me in the office and said, ‘This is what I want from you and blasé, blasé, blasé.’ I found out through ‘The Association’ like everybody else. We knew (defense) was something I have to work on. Offense comes easy. I have to work hard on the defensive end. That’s something I knew but he told the world.” New York Daily News

Minnesota has shown interest in the third-year guard out of Providence, calling around the league for feedback and initiating trade discussions. Talks have not escalated to anything serious or imminent at the moment, according to a source. However, another source said that a proposal is on the table waiting for the Timberwolves' approval. Brooks is a young player with some upside and a cheap contract -- he’s making $1.16 million in base salary this season and $1.2 million next season -- so he seemingly finds himself entangled in trade rumors often, something he’s gotten used to in his season-plus in the league. “It seems normal to me, man,” Brooks told Newsday. “Nah, I don’t really mind it at all. I would just like to know what team I’m going to be on after the next two days, and at then end of the day [Thursday] when the deadline is over with, I’ll be happy.” Newsday

“It’s a business,” Brooks said. “You’ve got to understand that. I picked that up on draft day. So, it doesn’t really feel awkward, me being in trade rumors or anything like that. At this point, I just want to get it over with.” Newsday
