Now, it is on Riley to replenish a roster that failed in a five-game NBA Finals loss to San Antonio. As Yahoo Sports reported on Saturday, James is pursuing a full max contract extension, beginning at $20.6 million – or something slightly below. Bosh and Wade will need to take pay cuts – Wade's significant – to create the cap space for Miami to be competitive in pursuit of free agent targets that include Kyle Lowry, Luol Deng, Marcin Gortat, Trevor Ariza and Marvin Williams. While Bartelstein seemed more than optimistic about Hayward, an NBA source said Williams has enjoyed his time in Utah and is "open and willing" to returning to the Jazz. His being an unrestricted free agent makes things more complicated for Utah — as are various reports pegging Williams as being a wanted commodity by title contenders, such as the Miami Heat. Of the four, Williams seems the most likely to be back with the Jazz next year. Williams, who started 50 of 66 games and averaged 9.1 points and 3.8 rebounds, said he loves playing in Utah and hopes to be here next year. “I’ve said all year long, the way the Jazz organization has treated me, the way the community has treated me, I can’t imagine being anywhere else,’’ Williams said. “Obviously I understand in professional sports things happen, but I’ve made it very clear I would like to return here if possible.’’ Deseret News

At the right price, his skill set and demeanor could make him an intriguing option for the rebuilding Jazz. According to one ESPN report earlier this year, the Utah front office turned down a deadline deal that would have sent a first-round pick to the Jazz in exchange for Williams, the hope being that Williams might re-sign. "I think it would be great," Corbin said of Williams’ possible return next season. "Who knows what will happen, but he’s a great guy to have on the squad." Salt Lake Tribune

Marvin has had no talks with management about his future. But at 27, he sees himself as a potential piece in an eventual winner. "I’ve enjoyed my time here from Day 1," he said. "Obviously, we won a lot more last year, being an older ball club. This year, even though we haven’t won as many games as we’ve wanted to, it’s been fun. We’ve taken our lumps, but that’s part of the growing process. And I’ve said it before — I do believe this team will be really good in the future." Salt Lake Tribune

Utah Jazz forward Marvin Williams won’t play tonight against the Los Angeles Clippers as the team awaits the results of an MRI on his lower back. Williams’ exam was originally slated for Thursday but was pushed back until Friday morning. With the results still pending, Jazz coach Ty Corbin said he would not risk playing the veteran forward.
