With Miami down by one and time running out, Rashard Lewis somehow got a pass from underneath the basket to James, who rose as Plumlee jumped to contest the play. Replays showed Joe Johnson made some contact with James as he started his move and that Plumlee hit the four-time MVP's hand on the dunk try, but the Heat never got the call they wanted. "My initial thought was to just foul and make him earn it at the free-throw line," Plumlee said. That's precisely what the Heat thought he did. "He grabbed my right hand," James said. "He didn't do it on purpose, but he got my right hand." Said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra: "It was a foul from my vantage point. But what can you do?" ESPN.com

Plumlee, who finished runner-up to Avery Bradley in the 2009 McDonald’s All-American dunk contest, said he’d gladly accept an invitation to compete in the NBA’s version. The Nets haven’t had a dunk contest winner since Dr. J won the ABA’s competition. Plumlee said he hasn’t been working on any new dunks, but “if they invite me, I’ll come up with something.” New York Daily News

Toronto could try to wait out the Nets' inclusion of a 2020 first-round draft pick or rookie center Mason Plumlee, but is doubtful Brooklyn will pay such a steep price. Jason Terry has been raised in talks, too, but only as part of a deal that includes young players or draft assets. Yahoo! Sports

Toronto is discussing deals for Lowry with an ever-growing list of teams, league sources said. Several teams are pursuing Lowry, but the Knicks' most direct competition for him could come from the Brooklyn Nets, who are also exploring the possibility of a deal, league sources said. Plumlee is likely to spend much of this season plying his trade with the Springfield Armor in the D-League, getting lots of minutes and working on his game. But he showed some signs Wednesday of the kinds of things he’ll be able to bring to the lineup if he gets a chance – due to either injury or rest situations – to get some minutes in Brooklyn. "I think Mason has done a good job of being a rookie and not getting in the way of the veterans and listening to them," Billy King told GoDuke.com. "For him to have Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, Brook Lopez, those guys can show him the right way to be a pro. It's going to help him for his long-term career. It's a great upside and the foundation for him will continue. This year, he'll have a chance. we're deep. But I think he'll play a lot of time in the D-League. If the opportunity arises, I'm sure he'll play for us as well." NetsDaily

The understated prize of the Scola trade last month is Plumlee, a player who was a part-time starter as a Duke senior and has logged 55 NBA minutes before turning 25 on Sunday. Green could help the Suns meet goals of being a more athletic, better 3-point shooting team and the first-round pick is valuable to add to the draft pick stockpile for potential trades but Plumlee was much more Suns’ target than a Pacers’ throw-in. “I know everybody’s excited about Gerald,” Plumlee said. “Being his teammate, I know he has all the talent in the world, but people don’t realize I didn’t have to be part of the trade to make it work. I think it was more that they wanted me, and that’s a good feeling.” Arizona Republic
