Mannix said that the Nets were looking to "make some kind of move," then mentioning, however, that the team does want to stay in playoff contention this season. He also goes on to applaud coach Lionel Hollins for benching both Deron Williams and Brook Lopez, in favor of Jarrett Jack and Mason Plumlee, respectively. NetsDaily

After Lionel Hollins was asked multiple times and in multiple ways about the pairing of Brook Lopez and Mason Plumlee, the blunt and honest head coach gave a blunt and honest assessment of the way they have played as a tandem this season. “Let me put it this way: I hope they play better together,” Hollins said before the Nets lost to the Mavericks 96-88 in overtime Monday night. “The numbers have shown they haven’t played well together. Our plus-minus numbers are down, our defensive numbers are down, everything when they’re on the court together is not very good for that combination, but it’s also not very good for Jarrett [Jack] and Deron [Williams]. “It’s not nothing new. Seeing them on the court now, I’m not looking for what they don’t do, I’m looking for them to play well so we can possibly win the game.” New York Post

Talks between the Sacramento Kings and Brooklyn Nets about a trade involving Nets star Deron Williams have cooled, according to league sources. Sacramento had recently initiated talks with the Nets, proposing a deal for Williams and second-year forward Mason Plumlee, who was actually the Kings' main target, sources said. With Plumlee struggling and clashing a bit with new Nets coach Lionel Hollins over the first month of the season, the Kings were hoping he might be available. To compel the Nets into moving Plumlee, they considered taking on Williams, whose contract and history of injuries has scared off many clubs. ESPN.com

Brooklyn, however, has no intention of moving Plumlee, who has surged to average 18 points and 10.2 rebounds over the past six games. With no chance of getting Plumlee, the Kings backed away from Williams. ESPN.com

Sacramento has significant interest with Williams, but a hurdle to a possible deal is the Kings’ desire to have center Mason Plumlee included into the package, league sources said. Brooklyn has considered Plumlee a significant part of its future core. The Kings have been thrilled with Collison, who has emerged as a strong leader and a popular teammate this season. There remains a reluctance for Sacramento to move him in a deal, sources said, but the Nets would need a point guard to replace Williams. Yahoo! Sports
