On the progress of Michael Carter-Williams following his April shoulder surgery: "Things are coming along. I haven't seen the full report of late and haven't seen the most recent checkup. He can shoot and is working hard. He is not ready for full five-on-five contact." Philadelphia Inquirer

It has been just over 2 months since rookie of the year point guard Michael Carter-Williams had surgery to repair the torn labrum in his right shoulder. The recovery, he said yesterday at Amway Center before watching the 76ers take on the Brooklyn Nets, is ahead of schedule and he is certain it won't hinder his progression moving forward. "I'm good and I'm still ahead of progress," said Carter-Williams, sporting a new high-and-tight haircut. "I've been shooting the ball and I have full range of motion in my shot back, so I've just kept working out and do what the doctor has told me to do to get back to 100 percent. Philadelphia Inquirer

The good news, Carter-Williams said, is that doctors tell him he's "ahead of schedule" with his rehabilitation. He just doesn't know when that schedule will allow him to be on the court playing at full speed. He is rehabbing three times a week, as well as on his own. He said he will also be with the Sixers' summer league team in Las Vegas beginning on Friday, but he will only participate in workouts, as he's not yet allowed to do anything strenuous. The Sixers have zeroed in on Exum and Noah Vonleh here. They are very high on Exum as a prospect. He obviously plays the same position as Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams. However, the Sixers feel the two can play together and they continue to explore Carter-Williams trades that would land them a third pick in the top 10. The Lakers have strong interest in a package of Carter-Williams and Thaddeus Young for the No. 7 pick and Steve Nash. But so far there hasn't been any traction on that deal, according to sources. Even if they don't move Carter-Williams, they might still lean toward Exum. They have him ranked as a stronger pro. ESPN.com

Sixers point guard and the new NBA Rookie of the Year, Michael Carter-Williams, has heard the rumors and he doesn’t think much of them. That’s what Carter-Williams said when he talked to the WIP morning show as well as Sixers beat writer for the Burlington County Times, Tom Moore. In town to make some appearances, Carter-Williams was asked about the possibility of the Sixers trading him in an elaborate draft-day deal. He wasn’t biting. “I didn’t even pay any attention to it,” Carter-Williams told the WIP morning show on Wednesday. “I have a great relationship with the coaches and the GM here, you know, I’m pretty confident that I’m not going anywhere for a little while. So, yeah, I heard it and I didn’t really pay any attention to it.” CSNPhilly.com

Many NBA execs also question what position he will play. Exum fancies himself as a combination of Manu Ginobli and yes, Westbrook. Throw in the body type of Michael Carter-Williams and you’ve got Dante Exum. Interesting combination to say the least, but what stands out in that mixture isn’t as much pure point guard as it is ‘playmaker.’ I think this is where a lot of scouts and execs get misled, why does a player necessarily have to be a pure point guard?
