Q: Some people don’t realize you actually work for the organization now – what do you do for the team? Michael Finley: I’ve been working with the team for, I think, two years now. And, I’m pretty much ‘Mark’s assistant’ – Cuban, that is. He’s not big on titles. So, he said if I wanted a title, if anybody happens to ask, just tell them you’re ‘Mark’s assistant.’ So, I accepted that title with open arms. But, my duty really is just trying to learn as much as I can from both Mark and Donny Nelson. And I’m kind of like the liaison between the players, management, and ownership. Try to give Mark a player’s perspective of what’s going on…just trying to make the team a better ‘team’, and make the organization be one of the best in the NBA. Dallas Morning News

From estate sale to home sale, former NBA player Michael Finley is clearly looking to deal. After selling off an “NBA Showtime” arcade game and other assorted artifacts from his playing career at his Dallas residence in October, the retired shooting guard has slashed the price of his house in San Antonio. The former Mavericks and Spurs great had hoped to bank as much as $1.5 million when began shopping the half-acre property in 2011. Since then, however, Finley has shaved nearly $400,000 off his original ask — including a February adjustment of nearly $200,000 — bringing the current listing price to $1.099 million. Of the amenities found inside Finley’s 5,421-square-foot spread, none stand out more than his in-house movie theater, which looks primed for a marathon reel of his career highlights. Other luxuries within the four-bedroom, four-bathroom include various living rooms, a game room, a large kitchen and a master suite with walk-in closets. Realtor

Michael Finley is trying to comeback in the NBA. The experienced player talked to Basketusa about his return to the court admitting that Tony Parker offered him to play in France for ASVEL Villeurbanne. "At the beginning of the season, the Dallas Mavericks offered me a spot at the training camp but I got injured. Other teams are interested in me, I am just waiting for one of them to make the right offer to me. I have spoken with Tony Parker and he offered me the chance to play for his team in France. But my family and my children are in Dallas. I may go for a month, if it is ok for him. I had no offer yet to play but my agent is in contact with 5-10 teams. I cannot reveal the names, I can just say that 5 of them are qualified for the playoffs at the moment. I hope to return to the NBA as a player. But I won't have the chance, I'd like to stay in the NBA as GM or to work for a franchise". Sportando

Finley then continued to work under Nelson through the offseason, but also never stopped training to keep alive his comeback bid. After Nelson publicly acknowledged for the first time in August that both Finley and former teammate Eduardo Najera were working as special assistants to the GM, sources say the Mavericks invited Finley to training camp as a player on a non-guaranteed contract before a minor calf injury scuttled that plan.
