When the Phoenix Shadow Mountain boys basketball team won Friday night, it snapped a 24-game winning streak by Sierra Linda. But that’s not the only thing that snapped. Mike Bibby got ejected and then escorted. Ejected from the game by the refs and escorted out of the gymnasium by Scottsdale police. ABC 15

As usual, Bibby was in the stands for this sectional game. He was arguing with the refs until he was forced to leave with a police escort, thereby creating quite the memorable moment – for all the wrong reasons. Our free advice? During games, Mike Bibby should act just like his #10 jersey that hangs on the wall of the Shadow Mountain gymnasium. Not make a sound. Simply watch. Be the strong silent type of parental unit. Seventeen years ago, Mike Bibby was enjoying a spectacular senior season, leading Shadow Mountain on cross-country journey to shoe-sponsored tournaments and its first state basketball championship. He finished a four-year varsity career as the state's all-time leading scorer. The following year, the point guard led the University of Arizona to its only NCAA men's basketball championship. He went on to a 14-year NBA career with the Sacramento Kings and five other teams. "I'm just trying to make a statement for myself," little Michael said after a recent practice. "It's kind of hard. But I like how it is, following in my dad's footsteps, where he came from. It's fun." High School Sports

Mike's father, former UCLA and NBA point guard Henry Bibby, wasn't around much during his formative years on the court. It is partly what drives Mike Bibby, making sure his son is getting his attention. Mike hasn't joined an NBA team this year. He still waits for a call, feeling he has at least a year or two left in his playing career. He goes to all of his son's games, sometimes with his brother-in-law, former Arizona State star and ex-NBA player Eddie House. He doesn't sit on the bench at games. But he has been in the gym to install the defense and has work with some of the younger players. "There are a lot of people out there that probably look at it, 'He's just playing because that's his dad,'" Mike said of his son. "But he puts the work in. As far as me growing up, I never really had anything to put the work in for me." High School Sports

Mike Bibby's No. 10 came out of retirement this season for his son to wear. It's a big number to carry, but one Michael Bibby carries with pride and poise on the court. "I want to see these kids do good," big Mike says. "There are millions of kids trying to get to where you're at. If you don't show these guys the right attitude, how to play this game, they can go find someone else. It's not hard." High School Sports

The Grizzlies conducted a workout with veteran point guard Mike Bibby in Phoenix Wednesday afternoon before their game with the Suns at US Airways Center. Bibby, 34, lives in the Phoenix area but hasn’t played in the NBA since appearing in 39 games for the New York Knicks last season. Sources with knowledge of the situation would not describe Bibby’s workout and insisted that no deal is imminent. Memphis Commercial Appeal

The Lakers aren't the only Western Conference team looking for help at the point guard position. According to two people with knowledge of the situation, the Memphis Grizzlies are working out veteran point guard Mike Bibby today in Phoenix. With the regular season underway, 14-year NBA veteran Mike Bibby is on the outside looking in for the first time in a long time. The offseason came and went and Bibby, like a bunch of other experienced players, remained unsigned. But the former King is not giving up on his NBA career just yet. Bibby is working out in the Phoenix area, playing pick-up ball and waiting for the phone to ring. "I'm getting ready for any call," Bibby told HoopsHype in an interview. "It's reassuring that Derek Fisher got that call. People are still getting calls right now. It can happen somewhere down the line, I'm not worried about that. I'm just keeping myself ready when that call comes." HoopsHype

"Last year everybody was telling me 'It's a lockout, lockout, lockout', so I was trying to take it easy, saving my body a little bit," Bibby said. "Then two days later I have to be here and go. It was tough to have only a few days to get in shape into training camp. Not being in shape at the beginning of the season, I think it hurt me." He ended up the year on a brighter note, averaging 23.6 mpg and shooting 41.2 percent from three in the playoffs for the point-guard depleted Knicks. Bibby, who claims to be in much better shape now, thinks he can still contribute in many ways. "I can bring leadership, I can play mentor, I can play whatever role that the team wants me to play", Bibby said. "I can still shoot the ball. I feel I can still move pretty well, getting the ball to the stars on the team... Doing a little stuff like that. I'm a good locker room guy." HoopsHype

Was that someone criticizing Jeremy Lin at Knicks camp? While Knicks coach Mike Woodson has run from the Lin issue, center Tyson Chandler was blunt, saying Lin was too “inexperienced’’ and their point-guard trio of Raymond Felton-Jason Kidd-Pablo Prigioni is an upgrade over last season’s Lin-Baron Davis-Mike Bibby troika. “Baron was hurt and Jeremy was a young point guard who was just learning and figuring out an offense,” Chandler said. “It was nothing against them and it was definitely nothing against Baron. “Jeremy was a young point guard who was inexperienced, who brought a great light to the organization. But as far as being able to run the offense and putting players in the right position he just wasn’t there. We got some veteran point guards that are capable of doing that.” New York Post

A source close to Knicks unrestricted free agent Mike Bibby told ESPNNewYork.com that it's unlikely the veteran point guard will return to New York. "We do expect a need for him [with a team] once camp starts or just before," the source said, "but we don't think it's going to be with the Knicks." ESPN.com
