"It is really not [anyone's] decision to make," said Bibby, who has signed contracts worth more than $100 million during his 13-year career. "I make the money, I decide what I do with it, it doesn't matter what anyone thinks of it," Bibby said. "My financial stuff is my business. It is always tough to give up money. I've won and lost in my career and I'm at a stage where I want to be happy." ESPN.com

Mike Bibby signed with the Miami Heat on Wednesday night, the deal being finalized quickly after the 13-year veteran point guard cleared waivers and became a free agent. Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Bibby surprised many with his decision to sacrifice all of the $6.2 million that he was owed in 2011-12 in order to leave the Wizards. But Falk said that Bibby didn't want to waste his time playing out the season for a team headed nowhere. And, while he likes John Wall and respects the rookie's game, the 32-year-old Bibby had no interest in taking on a backup role in Washington. "It's a very interesting situation," Falk said. "He made a very significant financial sacrifice in order to win. He could've easily played out the end of the year, probably got traded to a playoff team. But this is what he wanted to do. In his 13th year, he feels he's too old to be a on team that's not headed to the playoffs and too young to be a mentor." Washington Post

Bibby will clear waivers on Wednesday. While Falk said Bibby has not made a decision yet about which team he will join, one source close to the situation said he's headed to Miami. The source also said Miami is the front-runner for Troy Murphy, but sources on Tuesday told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that Murphy is signing with the Celtics. The Heat will have to cut as many players as they sign, and the source said Carlos Arroyo and Jamaal Magloire are the likeliest candidates. ESPN.com

However, Falk, who doesn't represent Murphy, maintained that nothing has been agreed to. "I've been in touch with six or seven of the top teams," he said. "Nothing can be done until he clears waivers." For Washington, the deal is a sweetheart one that will knock next season's payroll down to roughly $38 million, which is $20 million below the current salary cap. "It's gives us unbelievably great financial flexibility next year," Saunders said. "We're not right now a team that's in a playoff-type situation. I think it's a win-win situation." ESPN.com

Arroyo was not at practice Tuesday because the Heat needed to clear room for the impending arrival of Mike Bibby, the veteran point guard who will clear waivers Wednesday. Players were put in an odd position when asked about the change, looking forward to Bibby’s addition while not wanting to disregard what Arroyo contributed. Palm Beach Post

“First of all, we hate to lose Carlos, we hate to lose a brother,” LeBron James said. “He’s been here from Day 1, and he put a lot of hard work into it. Being our starting point guard early in the season, just staying with a positive attitude when that job was taken away from him. So much respect to Carlos.” Palm Beach Post

James said that Mario Chalmers has “done an unbelievable job,” But when asked what Bibby would bring, spoke mostly of Bibby’s experience in big games. “He’s not afraid of the moment,” James said. “He’s hit big shots. He’s taken big shots, he’s not afraid to miss.” James has known Bibby since he was in high school. “And a few years, we tried to have an opportunity to get him in Cleveland, and it didn’t work out,” James said. “So I’ve had some conversations with him and always said, ‘It would be good to have you as our point guard.’” Palm Beach Post

Mike Bibby made a somewhat surprising move when he elected to surrender his entire $6.2 million salary next season in order to receive a buyout from the Washington Wizards. But Maurice Evans and Jordan Crawford -- the teammates who joined Bibby from Atlanta in last week's trade for Kirk Hinrich and Hilton Armstrong -- weren't surprised by his decision. "He had been talking about it," Evans said about Bibby after the Wizards lost 105-77 on Monday. "He's kind of in a different stage in his career, being a full-time starter. He's not into a rebuilding process. Had he had a different perspective and wanted to tutor John Wall, but I guess he figured he might do that if he was four or five years older, then that would've been a better situation for him."
