Instead of gaining a $2.9 million injury exception for a replacement player, the Heat apparently will have the real thing, with Miller hoping to pick up where he left off, which just happened to be with seven 3-pointers in the Game 5 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder that gave the Heat their second championship. South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Unbeknownst to Miller, whose three-point barrage in Game 5 of the NBA Finals put the Heat firmly in sight of the NBA’s grand prize, the title to the 10,000-square-foot, eight-bedroom crib wasn’t really clear! "It’s not something that Mr. Miller did wrong," said auctioneer Trayor Lesnock. His company, Platinum Luxury Auctions, sold the property in a no-minimum-bid affair. "The sale is still on but hasn’t been recording because the lawyers are still talking." Lesnock said investigators found an out-of-state lien that resulted from a lawsuit involving two previous owners. "There was a court hearing in New Jersey to clear the title," Lesnock said. "That paperwork is still pending." Miami Herald

Mike Miller confirmed that he is back in the gym after an offseason of surgery and rehab and is eyeing a return to the NBA for another season. Weeks after winning an NBA championship with the Miami Heat in June, Miller had surgery to correct a host of injuries that caused him to miss 17 of 66 games last season. He averaged only six points per game in 19 minutes for the Heat last year but played a pivotal role in the crucial Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, shooting 7-9 from three and scoring 23 points overall. Miller limped through much of this past season, his back pain so severe at times that he couldn't even sit on the Heat bench during games. He has been consulting with Miami neurosurgeon Dr. Barth Green throughout this offseason, and the expectation now is that a combination of rest and rehabilitation should be enough to get him ready to play again. "No retirement," Miller said Tuesday. Miller made an appearance for about 600 children at a basketball camp he sponsored, walking in to roars from the kids and chants of his last name. And when told that Hialeah, a city just north of Miami, believes it was the epicenter of the biggest party to celebrate the Heat championship, Miller tipped his hand as to his future plans. "Then let's party again next year," Miller said. cbc.ca

Sources said there remains a possibility Heat swingman Mike Miller, who might need back surgery, could be ruled out for the season and Miami could receive a $2.9 million disabled player exception. If Miller ends up retiring, it would open up another roster spot. FOXSports Florida

The Heat’s playoff success re-affirmed that the team’s stars often do their best work when surrounded by skilled shooters that can spread the floor and give them space to operate. That’s why Miami’s addition of Ray Allen, among the supreme long-range shooters of his generation, holds such tantalizing possibilities. “Great pickup for the Heat,” former Magic and Heat coach Stan Van Gundy said in a text message Saturday. “Ray Allen is a great veteran player. Can play a Mike Miller role as a shooter. Mike has more size and is a great rebounder, but Ray is a great shooter and has stayed healthy, which Mike can’t do.” Miami Herald

Riley said there were no plans for the Heat to use the amnesty clause on Miller, and that the veteran swingman would take a few weeks to see how his body recovers. Riley joked that if he could get another 25-point effort from Miller in a Finals-clinching game next season, he'd be willing to let him sit out the entire regular season to rest. "The update is that he's going to probably spend a couple of weeks just letting everything just cool down," Riley said. "He has been examined. There hasn't been any real prognosis from the standpoint that this is what we're going to do. "But I think we're going to calm it down, treat it and rehab it ... before the doctor makes the final decision." ESPN.com

Mike Miller will sell his house on Saturday. And the buyer will decide the price. The Miami guard will auction off his three-story, six-bedroom, 9,000-square-foot waterfront house to the highest bidder. Oklahoman

Miller has arguably the toughest decision to make of any Heat player in the coming weeks. His bad back, which isn’t the only reason he missed 68 regular-season games during the past two seasons (foot, thumb, shoulder, ankle, hernia), will likely require surgery. He said Monday the odds he will go under the knife are “better than 50-50.” Miami Herald

The Heat considered using its amnesty clause last winter to dump Miller’s contract, but ultimately decided against it. There’s a chance the Heat could use it next season if Miller decides not to retire. “I remember texting Coach [Pat] Riley and saying thanks for not taking me behind the barn and putting me to sleep,” Miller said. “I still got something left in me.” Miami Herald

The Heat swingman said after Monday’s championship parade he could know more soon about whether heath problems might force him to retire. He said it’s “50-50’’ he will need back surgery for a bulging disk, and he expects to see a doctor later this week for an MRI. “It will be hard for me to walk away, but at the same time I got to make the right decision,’’ said Miller, a 12-year veteran who starred at the University of Florida. “I want to be able to play with my kids at some point.’’ FOXSports Florida
