Sources said there remains a possibility Heat swingman Mike Miller, who might need back surgery, could be ruled out for the season and Miami could receive a $2.9 million disabled player exception. If Miller ends up retiring, it would open up another roster spot. FOXSports Florida

The Heat’s playoff success re-affirmed that the team’s stars often do their best work when surrounded by skilled shooters that can spread the floor and give them space to operate. That’s why Miami’s addition of Ray Allen, among the supreme long-range shooters of his generation, holds such tantalizing possibilities. “Great pickup for the Heat,” former Magic and Heat coach Stan Van Gundy said in a text message Saturday. “Ray Allen is a great veteran player. Can play a Mike Miller role as a shooter. Mike has more size and is a great rebounder, but Ray is a great shooter and has stayed healthy, which Mike can’t do.” Miami Herald

Riley said there were no plans for the Heat to use the amnesty clause on Miller, and that the veteran swingman would take a few weeks to see how his body recovers. Riley joked that if he could get another 25-point effort from Miller in a Finals-clinching game next season, he'd be willing to let him sit out the entire regular season to rest. "The update is that he's going to probably spend a couple of weeks just letting everything just cool down," Riley said. "He has been examined. There hasn't been any real prognosis from the standpoint that this is what we're going to do. "But I think we're going to calm it down, treat it and rehab it ... before the doctor makes the final decision." ESPN.com

Mike Miller will sell his house on Saturday. And the buyer will decide the price. The Miami guard will auction off his three-story, six-bedroom, 9,000-square-foot waterfront house to the highest bidder. Oklahoman

Miller has arguably the toughest decision to make of any Heat player in the coming weeks. His bad back, which isn’t the only reason he missed 68 regular-season games during the past two seasons (foot, thumb, shoulder, ankle, hernia), will likely require surgery. He said Monday the odds he will go under the knife are “better than 50-50.” Miami Herald

The Heat considered using its amnesty clause last winter to dump Miller’s contract, but ultimately decided against it. There’s a chance the Heat could use it next season if Miller decides not to retire. “I remember texting Coach [Pat] Riley and saying thanks for not taking me behind the barn and putting me to sleep,” Miller said. “I still got something left in me.” Miami Herald

The Heat swingman said after Monday’s championship parade he could know more soon about whether heath problems might force him to retire. He said it’s “50-50’’ he will need back surgery for a bulging disk, and he expects to see a doctor later this week for an MRI. “It will be hard for me to walk away, but at the same time I got to make the right decision,’’ said Miller, a 12-year veteran who starred at the University of Florida. “I want to be able to play with my kids at some point.’’ FOXSports Florida

“I’m going to play as long as I can,’’ said Miller, who also was scheduled Monday to have an exit physical. “If (the back is) something that can be fixed and I can play, I’m going to play. But there are a lot of variables. What’s best for everybody, I got to really seriously take a long look at that.’’ FOXSports Florida

Use their amnesty option for the three years and $18.6 million left on his contract. Miller has privately prepared for this for months. Arison still would have to write the checks, but Miller would be removed from the payroll and the team would save millions in luxury taxes and potentially carve out room for a new player. If Miller departs in this manner, Allen would be an excellent replacement. ESPN.com

Alex Kennedy: Last night, Mike Miller and James Jones both said they'll contemplate retirement. Miami may have some roster spots to fill this offseason. Twitter

Mike Miller: “It’s a great feeling to be a part of this first of all. I’ve now played in two NBA Finals and you never believe that would be a possibility so to be a part of two NBA Finals, to make a difference in a Finals game is a dream come true.” Sports Radio Interviews

Miller might do it to himself -- to his NBA career, anyway -- and he might do it soon. He says he will meet with doctors, "see what parts work and don't," and then talk it over with his wife, his coach, his owner, and with team president Pat Riley. Miller has three years left on the five-year, $25 million contract he signed in 2010, but he doesn't want to steal anyone's money. He wants to be fair to everyone, starting with his family but also including his teammates. He doesn't want to be a burden on them, take up a roster spot next season if he can't contribute.
